Double standard in couples' age differences

I see all these posts where people are saying that Sarah Jessica Parker and Josh Duhamel wouldn't make a good couple because of the age difference. She is only 7 1/2 yrs older than him in real life. Why does everyone think there is something wrong with the woman being older? I have not read one post saying that Jon Bon Jovi is too old to be with Katherine Heigl in the movie. There is more than 16 yrs age difference there. But because he's an older man with a younger woman, it's ok?

I didn't say I was grossed out by their pairing, just that with almost every couple in this movie, the man was at least 8 yrs older than the woman, and everybody is ok with that, but they complain about the one couple where the woman is older.

Agree, there is certainly a double standard.

Robert Downey jr and Rachel McAdams in Sherlock Holmes - 13 years, no complains

Amy Adams and Henry Cavill in Man of Steel - 8 years, many complains

Completely hypocritical, I agree. Man has to at least 20 years older for any age difference to be noted, while woman can be only 3-4 years older and still many say she's too old.

Also, there is a general discrimination in Holywood of female actresses above 40 and male actors under 27. I mean, 23yo girl is playing a female lead, while 23yo guy is a boyish sidekick? Also, 45yo guy is a male lead, while 45yo woman is girls mother? Clearly double standards.

That said, I think that some might have problems with Josh Duhamel and SJP, because SJP is really overrated and not attractive. If the had Alex Pettyfer and Morgan Fairchild (40 years difference btw), it would be fine by me, cause they're both hot.

SJP is not ugly. Fairchild is fake and haggard now.

The woman is supposed to supply the sex appeal since the man is supplying the income.

If the woman is significantly older than the man, how is she supposed to do that?

Ever thought about that? People think the way they do for a reason, usually a good one even if one no longer agreed with by many nowadays.

women are supposed to be mothers and housewives the same way men are supposed to work. men supply the sex and beauty in nature

Agreed! However i do get a kick out of seeing Michelle paired up with younger dudes in a lot of her later films. Considering she build her career being paired with dudes twice her age.

I'm surprised to learn that she's only seven and a half years older than Duhamel -- she seems older!

So maybe it's perception -- Duhamel is one of those guys who seems like he could be 25, and SJP is one of those women who seem like they're a perpetual 49.

I'm not averse to older women dating younger guys -- I used to do just that! But even I was surprised when it turned out that they were a couple. I did not expect him to be meeting her of all people.
