How many teens today listen to U2?

I was a bit incredulous at the end when the teen daughter and her date danced to U2. I just can't imagine a teenager today purposely choosing U2 as romantic background.

Mind you, I don't have anything against the band. I just think their music would be something Matt Damon and his wife would be dancing too, not their daughter.

Dumb question. How many teens listen to the Stones or Zeppelin?

reply

I was wondering the same. I personally don't know any teen that would choose this either. I'm sure there are some out there, but surely they are a tiny minority.

And the film showed a fraction of that tiny minority. Not seeing the problem here.

Loads of teens listen to older music, by the way, especially those who gravitate towards genres like rock to begin with.

reply

I'm a teen. I personally dislike a lot of new music. U2's one of my favorites. So are the Stones and Lou Reed.
Ted Nugent called, he wants his shirt back.

reply

Exactly. Believe it or not a lot of younger people don't pander and follow every trend.
U2 (while I'm not a fan) spans many ages.

reply

Not all teens listen to total crap.

reply

Not all, but most. Most music today is s**t.

reply

There is always a subset of teens that will revert to older/classic material.

I get your incredulity and don't fault you at all, but it doesn't strike me as odd one bit.

If it were Pink Floyd or Bob Marley as the musical choice would you have the same objection?

Though who could dance to Pink Floyd?

You'd be surprised! I went and saw The Wall when Roger Waters toured it a few years back and my friend and I got up and danced a few times. I actually saw Pink Floyd years ago too and they really did swing on occasion...

We're from the planet Duplon. We are here to destroy you.

I thought maybe Matt Damon put the song on the iPod for them?

Great song, I'm a huuuuuge fan of basically anything 80s (and most 90s) U2.
