So where did Marion Cotillard run off to?

Maybe I missed something, but I was really confused when they didn't seem to follow up on her.

reply

My own assessment of the situation is that when she found out that the villagers were given placebos, and not vaccines, that she went to warn them so that they would continue to exercise caution until they did get the vaccines. To me, that seems like the given.

reply

Agreed. A classic case of Stockholm's Syndrome.

reply

I don't think it was Stockholm Syndrome. I think it was the moral thing for her to do. She found out that all of those kids in the village were receiving a fake vaccine, and she couldn't in good conscience let that happen. That wasn't about the kidnappers so much as about a group of innocent villagers who were going to face horrible consequences because her organization double-crossed her kidnappers.

She could have gone on the plane to be "safe" first and not get kidnapped again, then call those (mostly innocent) villagers and tell them the truth... though she would call the cops on those guys that kidnapped her too.

reply

[deleted]

Not necessarily. She is just being ethical.

If those people "think" they are safe, they will re-enter the world and probably become infected. The placebo could kill them.

reply

She should have taken her vaccine first before running off. She was in the real world and had a good chance at catching the virus, and if she ran back infected she could have infected the ones she wanted to save by not taking the vaccine. Think woman. And like others said, would she know exactly where to go? No she wasn't blindfolded, but I don't think she knew exactly where to go, and didn't speak the native language it seemed. Was she gonna call them, or get in a taxi and ask to go to the village? Amd why try and make it so dramatic and show her run off in a hurry and then not follow it up? And as someone else said, I bet the village is a smoking hole in the ground by the time she got to the airport. I see what they were trying to do but they didn't execute this little storyline well to me.

Why didn't she just friggin' call them? What was she gonna run back to the village? LOL

She wasn't actually blindfolded on the way back though and I think there were windows in the back of the vehicle she was in, so some chance she might find her way back.

reply

She could just go to the bathroom to throw out after got what she heard and got sick.

reply

My guess is she was running to the set of a better movie.

reply

I just snorted tea out through my nose. hahaha

reply

wow. that's cold. I don't get how you found that funny.

reply

Cold for whom? The fictional character? Marion Cotillard? Soderbergh?

Please.

The best thing about this film is that Gwenyth Paltrow dies before she could try to sell me on some $10,000 yerba mate face cream.

reply

Great post hahaha
Yep, I could really see her alarmed state and the urgency in her steps.

Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down and a Wagging Finger of Shame

This part threw me off too because she takes off in a hurry implying an important scene is coming but soon after the film is over! But agreed that it's implied she was going to warn the village.

Good movie, one of my favorites from 2011. Well shot, acted, written, edited etc.

reply

the scene where she is helping the children in the village school is there to show you she has empathy with the villagers and is not their captive.

then the next villagers tell her they are ready for the swap.

the film didn't show her locked up in a room, she was walking about openly in the school interacting with the children.

the whole point of that is to show her relationship wit the village, and the reason she ran out of the airport.

reply

The question isn't really why she ran, more so what she ran off to do.

reply

[deleted]

She ran off to contact her kidnappers and warn them about the fake vaccine. That way the villagers wouldn't drop their guard and think they were safe. Anybody with 1/2 a brain tied behind their back would understand this.

reply

sorry to have offended you with my ignorance
but thank you for taking the time to answer a 2 year old question anyhow.

Chances are that the kidnappers [if not the whole village] were dead if she had gotten to the village... the authorities in that part of the world don't take to kindly to those types of kidnappings
I actually thought the van with the kidnappers was going to blow up soon after leaving Marion on the road with fat boy [who should have waited until they were both in the air to spring his placebo surprise]

reply

[deleted]

Marion worked for the WHO, more muti-national governmental than a private company... the placebos, to look real, came from Chinese manufacturers... And Marion's co-worker said that the Chinese gov't didn't want anything close to copycats especially from organized crime, so I'd imagine the HK/Chinese authorities would have at the very least captured/jailed the ring leaders of this if not just shot them in the back of the head...

reply

[deleted]

Meh... not so much irrelevant, but a lot of this film is left up to your imagination [ i love this film, and wished it had been way longer, even a miniseries... but thats me]

reply

[deleted]

she runs off no where as there is no way to contact them or get back to the village. all of the kidnapping scum die, and she has a case of Stockholm syndrome. and everyone is happy that a useless bunch of @#$#@$ks die

reply

I sat through the credit sequence hoping they'd shed some light to this.
But no, it's just left hanging.

Well, I guess the others are correct. She probably went to warn the villagers.

Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down and a Wagging Finger of Shame

reply

How could she warn them, I doubt she knew exactly where they were... and if most likely the chinese government followed and turned the village into a smoking hole to discourage others from doing what those kidnappers did.
