Again another one who is Asterix

Honestly i am about to say that they should stop making these Asterix movies, when they keep changing the actor for Asterix.

You got to know Christian Clavier as Asterix, a very funny actor, who made an extremely good job being Asterix in the first 2 movies.

Then suddently it was changed to Clovis Cornillac, who i think did not do as good a job as Christian did. Not a very funny dude.

Now you have to get used to another actor playing the part of Asterix.
When they keep changing the lead cast, then you know its time to stop making the movies.

As they did with James Bond. No, wait. They didn't.

While I disagree with the OP, I do think that the Bond films should be put out to pasture.

As for Asterix, the character has a lot more history going for it than 3 (or now 4) live action films, so I doubt they're going to stop with them.

I'm confused about this film though, is it supposed to be Asterix at the Brittons with a catchier title?

reply

From what the synopsis says, you're right on. It's Asterix In Britain with a Bond title to attract more attention.

And that's all it will be, I hope. Certainly not acting like a Bond parody and having the two gauls playing spies. Who needs stealth and secrecy when you have a magic potion for bashing your enemies?

Tbh I didn't even notice they changed the actor. BUt I'm not french.

reply

Heh what does it have to do with being French? Are you saying that all Frenchmen look alike if you're not French? lol
Seriously all three actors, even with the whole getup look nothing alike.
I think Clavier is a good comedian but he did a bad job in the first two movies and I believe he got out because the script for Asterix at the Olympics sucked, but also because he was so ridiculously upstaged by Depardieu and Jamel in Cleopatra. So they had to go with someone else. Obviously Cornillac sucked so much in the Olympics that they had to replace him.

This one is just flat though and the movie's gimmicky 3D contrasts too much with the school jokes they used. Granted, the comic is not the best of the series but it doesn't hold very well to the passage of time and the big screen. They should have made new jokes.

I thought Christian Clavier was really good as Asterix, very funny!

Is the reason he stopped playing Asterix really the quality of the script of the 3d movie? Or was there another reason? I think he was the best Asterix, and the newer Asterix movies were never as good without him.

reply

He does look younger than Clavier. Yet Depardeu keeps playing Obelix.

reply

He stopped because he wanted one of his friends, Gerard Jugnot, to be in charge of the 3rd Asterix, and I believe it was planned at some point, but then it didn't happen, so they all went to do "Les Bronzes 3" instead (which frankly was pretty bad, as most 20-years-later-sequels are).
