It would have been better if the English joined in...

I think they should have recruited British comediens to play the Britons.

Imagine John Cleese as one of the Chieftains.

It would be hilarious to see Eccentric Pompous British humor contrasting Snide French wit!

reply

I agree. They should cast people that share the same origins as the characters.

I don't think this could work. What language would they speak???? The English speaking French would be first of all difficult and not funny. it would have to be either dubbed or the French and the English trying to speak each others Languages which would destroy the movie in my opinion.

But the previous Asterix movies were done in co-operation with the Germans and Italians.
So why not have the English have their turn at bat?

The English actors speak thier lines in English and the French speak in French.
Its been done before!
Then both countries would only have to dub half the dialogue.

In the Smurf movie why didn't they cast real smurfs instead of computer animating them?

reply

I agree. They've done international productions before, they could've done it again.

reply

Many English speak French you know.

I watched this on a flight coming to the US from France. It sounded to me that the actors playing the British folk said their lines in a very careful way especially Jolitorax. like a Brit might if you were making fun of them.

reply

Yes, they spoke like Anglophones trying to speak French.

reply

Yeah definitely, most of the fakes accents are horrible, nowhere near funny.

reply

I have to admit, that i could not imagine to see John Cleese being one of the chieftains, but that is entirely because of Cleese's old age.
But i could how ever picture Joanna Lumley playing the queen :-)
