The premiere was earlier this month at the Woodstock Film Festival. I haven't found any reviews yet. Hopefully it will be out on DVD or at least on PBS in time for Phil's 70th birthday in December.

It is now playing at the IFC in New York City, 6th Ave. and 3rd St. If you are not lucky enough to live here, make a special trip. We can use the money and we will be glad to see you.

It's about to be released on DVD, according to an announcement on the film's page here, on IMDB.

If you like films like this, check out 'For the Sake of the Song', 'Be Here to Love Me' and 'You're Gonna Miss Me'.

The feature is allegedly being shown on local pbs affiliates as part of this month's American Masters program.

The PBS version is the edited version (eleven minutes missing)-better to get it on Netflix.

reply

Edited to fit a timeslot or for content, do you suppose?

Nox nix, I'll request the Netflix DVD to scan for missing minutes riight aaway.

[Followup question, just in case you're in the know w/insider stuff..]

Seems from the official website, though there were dozens of individual theater showings, TBFF didn't much play on the film fest circuit. Which presumably might have forgone award buzz. Ah well.

It was solely for time, not content. The movie was finished a couple of years ago and was distributed theatrically by First Run Features and had a very respectable run after its premiere in January 2011 (list of playdates here: http://firstrunfeatures.com/philochs_playdates.html). The theatrical release pretty much precluded the need for festival showings.
