The shows' writers don't even try

Burlesque secretary gets inquiries from people who need to clear space in their warehouse or empty their garage which is currently stacked to the ceiling with crap. Literally tons of crap.

Pickers show up in a van totalling 0.75 meters-squared. They proceed to "break the ice" and negotiate the sale of what usually amounts to a vintage street sign, a box of raisins or something similar and a toy car. They put these three items in their small van, shake hands and drive away. Multiple camera views of client who is ecstatic that were able to sell all this stuff.

Am I missing something here?

Did you miss the part that it's all SCRIPTED and the deals are worked out before the cameras even roll ? 

I don't think that every item that they purchase makes it onto the small screen. It's a tremendous advantage for the buyer to know exactly what the seller paid for an item. They film the "discovery and haggling" of a handful of what they think are interesting items, while the rest of the transactions occur off camera. Can you imagine how long one of these shows would be if they contained every item, every moment of dickering? Peter Jackson would be jealous!

If you deflect the topic of the thread from the show to me, our discussion is over
