That's not what a picker is

When I first heard the title of this show, I was excited because I thought I was going to heard some really good music. When I watched the show I was disappointed because of the misuse of the word picker.

A picker is a musician who can "pick" (an expert player of) an acoustical music instrument such as a guitar, or a mandolin or a banjo. This show is about a team of con men who go around the country cheating people out of their possessions and then selling the items at a higher price, while laughing at how they conned their victims.

First, picking has more than one meaning. Including, but not limited to, a slang term that refers to people who look for valuable items or good deals through antique sales, garage sales, estate sales, etc. Second, these guys are running a business. If they bought the goods/items for its full value they wouldn't make a profit. That shouldn't be difficult to understand. It's basically the difference between wholesale and retail. Further, no one is forcing the sellers to sell or preventing them from knowing the full value of the items they are selling. Additionally, if the sellers are interested in full retail value they should sell directly to the final "consumer" (as opposed to selling to another seller who has no incentive to buy without margin) by listing/selling the items/goods on eBay, antique shops, etc. But doing so will cost the seller additional time, effort, expense, etc. Thus, this is a major reason why some sellers are willing to sell items for less than full value.
