Salinger is a rabbit hole to some scary sh*t

Not sure what exactly this documentary covers on J. D. Salinger's life, but apparently it contains major surprises for audiences and delivers revelations and shocking secrets about the author's life. I've read conspiracy theories involving Salinger's little known connection to US intelligence departments including the OSS and the CIA, as well as classified mind control programs, and wondering if the revelations are related to this?

In CONSPIRACY THEORY http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118883/ Mel Gibson's character needs to have a copy of Salinger's THE CATCHER IN THE RYE on him at all times or else he goes insane. At the time I thought this was just a meaningless plot device as the film is a lightweight romantic comedy for the most part...

But then I read a new conspiracy thriller novel titled THE NINTH ORPHAN http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0056I4FKC which claims to merge fact with fiction. According to this book THE CATCHER IN THE RYE was a crucial part of the CIA's vast mind control program MK-Ultra. It asserts that Salinger's classic novel acts as a device to activate mental triggers for MK-Ultra brainwashed assassins. THE NINTH ORPHAN also covers J.D. Salinger's significant ties to the CIA and how the book was found on the men responsible for the assassination and attempted assassination of John Lennon and Ronald Reagan as well as Lee Harvey Oswald's love of The Catcher.

Funnily enough Mel Gibson's character in CONSPIRACY THEORY was a former CIA agent and an escapee from the MK-Ultra program.

Another thing I always found a little odd regarding THE CATCHER IN THE RYE is that it's part of the curriculum and compulsory reading for high school students in the US and most Western countries. That seems more than a tad strange given the highly rebellious and anti-social nature of the book.

Another book worth reading is IN SEARCH OF J. D. SALINGER http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003FW3IL8/ which also recounts Salinger's experiences in the employ of various intelligence agencies, during and after World War II.

Soory, man. Salinger is not the rabbit hole. For those on the fringe, the rabbit hole was entered loooong before they encountered Salinger's work.

I saw the film at a prescreening this week. it is utterly boring, without merit and stupid. The film attempts to paint a dark portrait of salinger as an influencer of dark deeds but when one considers that at least 100M people have read Catcher In The Ryehe , and only a small handful of wack jobs have tied back to the novel, I'd say that is a pretty good ratio that makes the film's many premises (they could not pick just one) to be null and void. This film is pathetic beyond measure and a blight on Weinstein's record.

Dunno, guys...Think y'all may be missing something here with Salinger...Think about it, Catcher was an obsession of the most famous assassins of the 20th Century (all of whom claimed to be in the MK-Ultra program)...

Haven't seen the film yet, but I note there's a new trailer and they are picking up on Salinger's military and secret intelligence background...I suspect this was the real reason for Salinger becoming a recluse due to what he knew and what he'd been involved with (ala Stanley Kubrick)

You can check out the new trailer here: http://www.indiewire.com/article/new-salinger-trailer-reveals-striking -insight-on-the-iconic-american-novelist

It's called a masterpiece. A masterwork that is crafted at such a high level, that touches upon levels of meaning just outside our ability to fully articulate, is going to, and DID, tap into the collective consciousness of generations to follow. Why do you think this novel changed the lives of so many?

It's not merely coincidence that countless young people around the world felt as if Holden were voicing their own inner angst and creative way of making sense of the inherent madness of daily life. And for those who are truly mad, a work this powerful is going to tap into that schizophrenic part of their brain, and take on a more literal meaning.

I'm sorry, but your theory doesn't take into account that these people were mentally ill to begin with, and so was, allegedly, the hero of this book. Of course they're going to find a soul mate in Holden, and feel as though he were passing along some sort of direct orders for them to carry out.

Have you ever seen that John Lennon documentary where some schizoid kid ends up camping out on his property, claiming the Beatles lyrics were speaking directly to him? Have you read about the countless stalker who believe the actors and musicians they obsess over are also speaking to them on a cosmic level? It's everywhere, and not the work of some government cover up. It's sick people who deserve a little more understanding.

oh yeah, it's the internet

What about The Bible or The Quran? They've been the obsession of millions of the most famous assassins of the past millenia. Think you're reading too much into all of this!

You say that as if the Weinsteins are known for having a clean record.

Never tell me the odds.
