Why wasn't this in the movie?

I read in her book that when she got attacked, one of the paramedics (I think it was a paramedic), leaned down and said to her "God will never leave you or forsake you". That, to me, seems really inspiring and something that would have really affected her in a positive way, so why wasn't it included in the movie. Especially since they put in a lot of other things about her faith? Anyone know?

That's really sad. It's not like they were trying to convert anyone- they are a Christian family, so they should have been able to tell their story the way it happened. what happened to freedom of religion? It makes no sense to not want religion in the movie, when that was part of the true story....

I think I read somewhere that the "big wigs" wanted to take out many of the references to God and the family refused saying their faith is everything to them and they wouldn't agree to the movie if it was omitted.

The actual story seems that it was that a Jehovah Witness who was trying to impose her religious beliefs on the school and that it has nothing to do with liberal or progressive agendas. I think she was said that it might ‘offend other cultures’ and it was ‘too grown-up’ for five-year-olds but it's clear that she was trying to push her own religious agenda.

Liberals think they have freedom FROM religion and seek to silence it every chance they get.

Leave it to this guy to drag politics into everything, even God.

FYI- there are millions of right-leaning atheists in the USA and millions of Christian liberals.

They are not the problem. You are the problem trying to force your beliefs, or lack of them, down everyone else's throat with your politics.

Ignore JohnDoe888. he is most obviously a troll. Could not even come up with an original name!

Who cares why it didn't make the movie. If this had been a story about a Muslim family and there was a scene involving the father reading from the Koran, some people with values similar to yours would be actively PROTESTING it and you'd be here vilifying it. Gain some perspective and relax.

I am not a believer, and organized religion really disgusts me - and the xtians that go on and on about it! Ack! I did FFD through those 'inspirational' scenes (once I realized that is where the movie was heading). I have no interest in hearing about someone's 'god'. Would you feel comfortable if she was talking about the great god Mohammed? I don't think so!
That said, I would have no problem if that line was in the movie. It seems minor, to me. Like many things in a movie, it was probably traded off for some other line or scene. The producers wanted a less-religious movie, for a wider audience. That is understandable.

Cause it would have made a truly terrible movie even sappier

Exactly.

God allowed a shark to subject her to unimaginable terror and agonizing pain, and to deprive her of her arm for the rest of her life. It sure as hell looks like He abandoned her, or at least was on vacation that day.

Read the book of Job. Or really the whole Bible for that matter.

God never says that believers will be free from difficulties. In fact, the opposite.

Jesus himself was crucified and killed. Paul the Apostle was imprisoned, beatened and killed. Many of the Old Testament prophets were hated and murdered.

The Bible basically says that if you follow God you're likely to have a hard road ahead of you. If you want a life of luxury and ease, it's better to give God the middle finger. The next life, however, may be a different story.
