As a Brazilian i hated this movie

1) I'm Brazilian and i struggled to understand the Portuguese spoken in this film. Why didn't they hire local actors instead of bringing foreign ones to play the locals? Brazilian actors are cheaper than Hollywood actors so it would be the logical choice. At the end Jordana Brewster (who IS Brazilian) spoke Portuguese better than any of the "Brazilians" in the film. I'm not asking for Rodrigo Santoro, Alice Braga or Wagner Moura. I'm just asking if you're going to film in Brazil then hire Brazilian actors for God's sake.

2) FBI doesn't have jurisdiction outside US. International criminals are chased by the local police in collaboration with INTERPOL.

3) The Police of Rio de Janeiro doesn't have those expensive cars we saw in the film.

Yup, they should´ve used locals. Would have added some flavor.

reply

Yes, the Portuguese spoken in this movie is a little off putting. But thank God they didn't spoke Spanish, as does a lot of "Brazilians" in Hollywood movies.
As for the FBI jurisdiction, all Fast and Furious movies have major inconsistencies with real world, so much that for me they aren't flaws, but features ;)

reply

Also, it wasn't the FBI hunting them, but the DSS (Diplomatic Security Service), and I'm not sure about their jurisdiction. Maybe they're connected with Interpol?

reply

Actually, I saw in the trivia for the film that the setting was Rio, but they actually filmed in Puerto Rico... so maybe they did hire locals?

Cheers mate!

(1) Jordana Brewster is NOT Brazilian. She's Panamanian.

(2) The US has an extradition treaty with Brazil, meaning that the FBI CAN enter the country to do work there. Whether or not they have jurisdiction in certain parts is up for debate, but no one can stop them from getting into the country to conduct their own investigation. It's a free world.

(3) The fleet of Police cars in Rio is not limited to what you see - they DO have Dodge Chargers there.

What planet do you live on?

reply

I don't know about you, but I live in planet Earth.

Considering she was BORN in Panama, and LIVES in the USA, I don't see how Brazil is where you deem her to be from. Her mother is Brazilian, her father is American, Jordana is Panamanian.

Early life
Brewster was born in Panama City, Panama.

Now, I never went to Harvard or Oxford, but from what I know, your NATIONALITY is determined by the NATION you were born in, or a nation you hold citizenship for. She has citizenship for Panama and the USA.

(1) You're right.

(2) Don't know where you read it, but FBI have no jurisdiction here in Brazil, but nothing can stop Brazil to have their collaboration in some matters. We already have an example of collaboration between our countries, our special operations troop (BOPE - yes, that troop from elite squad movie) have a training program with SWAT where we share information and SWAT teach some of our soldiers some tactics they use in USA.
"but no one can stop them from getting into the country to conduct their own investigation. It's a free world."
I'm sorry, but no it's not. You should know that every country is have their supremacy and it means that FBI, witch is a North American police agency CAN'T start an investigation in Brazil as they please, it would hurt not only our supremacy, but also our Constitution.

(3) Don't know from where you get this information, but I can assure you we don't have Police Dodge Chargers in our Streets. Yes, I live in Rio.

reply

Great points I'm sure. But I think what it is is that's it's a Fast & Furious movie. Perhaps you missed that...
