Am I the only person who can't stand Nora? (spoilers)

Granted, I have not finished the series yet (almost finished with season 3), but I have never warmed to the character of Nora. I love the actress, but the character really annoys me.

First she blames Josh (understandably...kind of) for the curse...when Josh TOLD her to get out before he transformed. He only had to force her out because she refused to leave.

Then she opts to stick with Conner and his sister instead of the guy she supposedly had feelings for. Then after Conner dies she splits, blaming Aidan...and by proxy, Josh...for siding with Aidan.

Then she comes back when Josh is happy, wanting him back...but playing the "I only want you to be happy" card. She talks about how much she had changed, but then fast forward 15 months (after Julia's death) and she takes in the teen wolf (I still suspect she's the one who turned that kid after Liam busted her out of the storage unit) and when the girl asks how it feels to transform Nora doesn't hesitate to say that it's amazing.

Then when the psycho teen wolf they have known all of 2 weeks (who ran away and was returned by, of all people...LIAM) tries to kill Aidan, Nora sides with the teen! Her character seriously drives me insane. She never takes responsibility for anything and she likes to blame everyone else. How is her killing that other twin any different than Aidan defending himself against Buffy the dumbass teenage werewolf?

I know all of the characters are flawed in their own right, but at least they come by it honestly. Nora acts like she's above the others and it really bothers me.

Please tell me she gets better in season 4?

I was okay with Nora for the most part.

In season 2, I could see where her head was. She got caught up in being a supernatural creature, and she was redefining herself. Two wolves show up promising to teach her how to be a powerful werewolf rather than a helpless abused woman, something Mr.It's-Only-One-Day-A-Month didn't offer. When Connor was killed, she took off with Brynn. When she discovered that being a mild mannered nurse suited her much better than a being a full-on psychopath, she calmed down and came back. (I don't give her a pass on Will, though. She remembers killing Heggeman, and knows what her wolf is capable of killing. Nora pretending not to know she was planning to kill him gets her no leniency from me.)

Season 3, she totally loses me. Her hatred towards Aidan gets very tedious. Here she and Josh have been together for a year and a half, shelling out some serious money to psychics to find Sally, and interrogating every vampire they come across trying to track down what happened to Aidan. Miracle of miracles they are returned! And although she's cool with Sally, she gets very pissy about Aidan for no discernible reason. He is STARVING. She tells Josh not to help him find clean blood, does nothing herself to help him, then asks Aidan how the hunt for clean blood is going. Still hungry, huh? Sucks to be you! Knowing what the alternative was, having watched the virus wipe out vampires left and right for months, she's cool with just sitting back and letting him starve, then blames him for how dangerous he is because he's hungry. After all this drama, she makes a hairpin turn, lauding Aidan as one of the best friends in the world.

Yes, Nora was portrayed as having a serious cranial/rectal inversion problem in season 3. But this is a TV show, and there has to be tension and drama to drive the story forward. It's just a plot device to get the characters to the places the writers wanted them to go. (Really, at the time, to me it just seemed way too far to go to justify Nora NOT wanting to sleep with Aidan once they were under the same roof, and I thought Josh's "bros or hos" dilemma was just plain boring.)

Nora having been the one to turn Erin would have given Nora a solid reason to be emotionally invested in Erin, certainly more than just seeing herself in Erin. But it doesn't ring true for me. Nora was with Liam all night. Ray remembered turning Josh, and Nora remembers killing Heggeman, so I would think coming face to face with a young girl would be information that lingered in Nora's conscious mind. She was not evasive with Josh when he told her about Erin, and there was no shock of recognition when Nora looked at her. Liam took turning someone seriously, so if something like that happened on his watch, I would think that it would have been addressed. As it was, it was established that there were a lot of werewolves roaming Boston at that time, that's why Pete came. It could have been anyone.

Nora is better in Season 4. Things will get a little dicey between her and Josh, but this time she will have solid reasons for her actions.

Thanks for the reply. Season 3 is when she lost me, too. Season 2 I was willing to put up with her actions because of the circumstances. And as much as I disliked her actions of killing Will, I understood them. I have a longstanding belief that anyone who is capable of abusing a fellow human being has the capacity to do it again (same with Danny...I was glad when he died, though I was equally glad that it wasn't Sally who offed him). Not to say Will deserved death, but he deserved some kind of ramifications. I think that spoke more to Nora's character than his, though. She has no problem taking the life of a fellow human being (albeit, it was all about revenge), and Josh is characteristically the opposite. He can't even find it in himself to kill vampires or other wolves unless they are actively threatening his life or the lives of his friends (I even kept yelling at the screen when he was shooting at Liam, "Head shot, you moron!" I get too wrapped up in this show, lol). Josh punishes himself for his mistakes, and Nora just acts weird for a day and moves on (or so it seems).

Really, my problem with her isn't with the actress or the circumstances, but the writers. It just felt like they couldn't make up their mind with her character and made her very wishy-washy and it got old really fast. Her hatred of Aidan and the way she was treating him seemed to really come out of nowhere. And again, that's a problem with the writers, not the character. And that whole "baby wolf" storyline was (like you mentioned) created for nothing more than to create conflict between the characters. Just wasn't a fan of it, I suppose.

I don't know. I really want to like Nora, because I have met the actress and she is a complete sweetheart (they all are, actually...which is what prompted me to watch the show). But at the same time, ever since she's come on screen, the character has done nothing but grate my nerves. I loved season 1 so much that I guess I held the highest of standards to the rest of the seasons, and I wasn't as impressed with season 2 as I was 1. And I've been even less impressed with 3. I'm hoping to finish off 3 today and start 4 later in the week. I'm crossing my fingers that the last season is as good as the first.

I just want to love all 4 of the main characters at the end.

Edit:
Update: Finished the series. She grew on me in the 4th season for sure. It's like she was a completely different person. In fact, I don't think she irritated me at all in the last season. I'll chock up all the random irrational behavior in season 3 and a little in 2 to bad writing, not the character herself.

Not really.

Anne Fricke lost her touch in Season 3 and 4 was terriable! especially when she was on screen!

Sadly this show could never sever ties with its british counterpart

If you saw the british show you would know what I mean

No she doesnt and I was so happy when this show was cancelled!

yeah me too as people can attest. The problem with her is she become a regular and that hurt the show. Anne Fricke didnt think she had it in her to become different

Werewolf marriage boyfriend girlfriend
the one thing I do command her on is Donna.

They were paid to be sweet too you! See them off camara and off the convention floor like in there hotel rooms or doing something with them without paying for it!

Thats one of my complaints for the last season is they just throw everything at us and it didnt make sense especially HER!

Well you need to see the british version of it. I will admit the first and second season was getting better but 3rd OH GOD what the heck was Anne
thinking! Oh no the last season is terriable basically there are bright spots but overall its crap

I just want to love all 4 of the main characters at the end.

But it wasnt supposed to be FOUR CHARACTERS!

UK version had one wolf one Vampire and One ghost then they turned two wolves one ghost one vampire and the ghost and vampire fall in love

USA version had one wolf one vampire one ghostthen they turn two wolves one ghost one vampire and the ghost and vampire fall in love.

I think Anne was grasping for straws when Jeremy left and thats what hurt the show and going back too making it like the UK version

Watch the UK version. It was horriable writing and again they want back to the UK version of Being Human which hurt them

Even though they said it was the cost of running the show!

I doubt that when Jeremy left the show season 2 or 3

I'm actually in the middle of the 1st season of the UK version right now. I like Michell a lot and George has his quirks. However, I can't really stand Annie (please tell me she gets better as the series goes on?). She is a lot whinier than Sally. I know a lot of people on the boards hate Sally, but I liked her bubbly personality. Hated the last episode with her exit though. Complete crap writing. Super-rushed.

I agree with you about Donna. I think she was a great addition.

I didn't pay to meet the actors/actresses. They were in town doing something and I ran into them in a hotel. My friend recognized them (she watched the show long before I did). I didn't. We chatted about the show for a while. Sam Huntington was an absolute goofball. They were all very personable and pretty cool. Not all actors and actresses are Charlie Sheen and Mel Gibson.

Third season of the US version was my least favorite, and it definitely got a little choppy in the 4th, but by the end I didn't hate any of the characters, not even Nora (whether it's because Nora actually grew on me or because I got used to her personality, I don't know).

I did think that ghost girl storyline was stupid, though.

Why? Well she is there but she wasnt my favorite I think they didnt know what to do with her! I did Like the Sally Donna parts in fact I loved them!

you mean the fourth crappy season I just watched it for Adam and Regu! I hated how George died he should have stayed on and as for Nina didnt care one way or the other! OH and Tully/Ray Dies

Mark Williams plays him so wonderfully!

Adam I was kinda disappointed in. It was like Becoming Human never happened

I think its hard to do ghost stories you know!

and Kenny but again I dont think they knew what to do with him either!

They still had there mask on so to speak! LOL

Well try to take a picture of Sam Huntington and his children together! LOL

you mean the Suren Mother and Kenny? I hated the marriage! I did like the vampire and ghost parts with Donna. Yeah four I felt they were putting out all the stops in the show since it was the last season. In the fourth season Donna and Kenny become plot devices

Even though I liked Donna backstory

I did think that ghost girl storyline was stupid, though.

which one? I also wish they kept the Rewind Rewind episode and continued it on too the orginal time line

reply

Ah, yeah...speaking of Kenny, I loved him when they first introduced him. I even liked him in the 4th season, but you're right...he became nothing more than a plot device.

As far as Sally, she was one of my favs in the US version, even when she went nuts shredding ghosts. I loved Nick and Stevie, too. I like how even some of the side characters had depth.

As far as Suren goes...she bored me at first, but I grew to like her later in the season. I think my favorite relationship Aidan had was Rebecca. She was a dynamic (and sometimes insane) character. Her end I found particularly sad.

The little ghost girl storyline I was talking about was when the house manifested into that homicidal little girl (Bea? Or was her sister Bea? Can't remember). That storyline was just random and kind of out of place in the last season.

All in all though, the show entertained me. And I liked it. I'm still searching for another good supernatural show that draws me in like Being Human did. I tried Bitten, but haven't really gotten into it. I try The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, but have a hard time paying attention to those because at this point I feel like the writers of those shows are just phoning it in.

I kind of miss Being Human...the good and the bad.

Yeah too bad they were killed off I forget nick and stevie though. I did like the scott

Yeah I felt frustrated since I think she could have been a good boston leader but I heard the actress was leaving to do another show.

But seeing how good she could be with the dinner and the slicing of Henry skin WOW

I wish they had a meeting with Suren Mother Bishop Kenny Bernie Henry! that would have been good! I loved the episode when Bishop said your muslces restrict! and then he kills the Dutch!

Like I said they were throwing everything at us you know

Well everything changes what could have been you know! Too bad we didnt get too see more of pete

they had so much potential and it want down the drain you know

HAHA try Teen Wolf but it seems they are going to let go of the main cast which I hope doesnt happen

I think Being Human USA never found its footing you know. They had some pretty good stories it was just not delivering what sy fy wanted.

I kind of miss Being Human...the good and the bad.

I miss it a little bit naked josh sally Kenny Donna Stevie Nick everyone except the blonde LOL

If only they had not followed the UK version so closely plus it never found its footing since when Josh become a human he was as good a tub of water you know!

reply

Oh, I love Teen Wolf. It's a totally guilty pleasure show. Love the cast and the writing. It's just fun. I miss it and look forward to the next season.

BH certainly tackled some weird random storylines, but I'm glad I stuck it out (and I'll hopefully be finishing the UK version soon). After I finish the UK series I might just have to go back and rewatch the US version.

Yeah Nora is about the stupidest shallowest person sometimes. But it's not just Nora, it's with the other characters too. Unfortunately the writers are often lazy and create "fake" drama by making characters do stupid and implausible things.

And how many times something only become a problem because they don't talk to another?

well the last season it was like anne was throwing everything at us for no reason

Rewind was like the UK version when they want back into the future

the cheator of the pack was when George cheated on nina

I can't stand her either, shes always whining.
I liked season 1 best with just the main 3.
