Marina tryst with the carpenter

She was unhappy with the way their relationship had become with her return to America. It didn't solve their unhappiness or problems, only made them more aggravated and frequent. The carpenter was a temporary escape for Marina from all of that. He loved and respected her for her and that was that. Once it happened, her guilt took over and she realized she still loved Neil, hence her telling him and the eventual divorce.
