Moby Dick...with Dragons?

Well, in my opinion it sounds kinda cool. Not enough dragon themed movies around. These kind of movies are very rare and I don't know why. And for this alone I am very glad it is coming out. I just hope it is good. Apart from ol' Danny, the cast is not that stellar. Here's hopin'.

And now a request for you guys.

Does anyone has any knowledge of new dragon themed movies? Doesn't matter if it's a TV movie, DTV or big screen. Big thanks.

Logan: I don't know.
Rogue: You don't know, or you don't care?
Logan: Pick one.

I agree. I feel like there aren't enough epic fantasy films floating around. Sadly, I don't know of too many.

-Dragon Hunter is available for free on Hulu. It's a very recent DTV flick. The IMDb rating is low, but I think people might just being treating it harshly because of the low-budget effects... (I can't say because I haven't seen it.)
-A lot of people enjoyed Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God. I thought it was alright.
-If you haven't seen Reign of Fire, then shame on you.

Those are the only recent ones that come to mind.

I have seen all of these. Numerous times. Good, bad, doesn't matter to me as long as there is a Dragon in there. Including Dragon Hunter, D&D 2 and Reign of Fire, since 2002, there are 15 dragon movies with various degrees in quality. And since 1981 I know of 19 movies.

I would like to know of some other projects besides Age of Dragons. What I would really love to see would be Temeraire. PJ of LOTR fame has the rights to the novles but I don't see him doing that too soon. Actually, I don;t see him doing that, period.

Hey there,

I've done a preview story on my dragon website about Age of the Dragons including the trailer for the movie. I think it looks pretty good!

I also think Dragon Hunter is a worthy addition to any dragon fans movie collection.

But why haven't you bothered with How To Train Your Dragon? Ideally live action movies would be preferred but the flick is really good and there are some really cool dragon sequences in the film that are far more imaginative than could be achieved with the limitations of budget of most live action dragon flicks.

Would be better if you listed all the dragon movies you've seen if people are going to give you suggestions. I would also be interested in seeing your list of all the dragon movies. =)
Have you watched Sintel? It's an animated short movie, and even if you wanted live action movies, it's worth a watch(especially since it's a free open project and you can watch the movie online).

What about Q (1982)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084556/

The Last Dragon (2004) This is a documentary like "Walking With Dinosaurs"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0433367/

reply

I have heard of Q but never gave it much attention because I didn't know what that creature was. Can I add this movie as a dragon movie?

The Last Dragon (Dragon's World:A Fantasy Made Real) is more like a movie than a documentary. If you think about it, it has a story behind the documentations of all the dragon species that have existed within the movie's universe.

I hope that we will see soon enough another dragon movie in cinemas, a movie that gives us at least a sequel, a movie that is every bit as good as any HP movies. Anyway, let's hope for the best.

I can add to your list:

Stanley's Dragon (1994)
Dragonworld: The Legend Continues (1999)
Dawn of the Dragonslayer (2011)

I was severely disappointed by it. I mean; first, Syfy does a remake, set in the modern day. And, now, this sword-and-sorcery version?! What's next? A hunt for the Great White Space Slug, led by ex-Jedi Master Ahab? :-(

reply

Of all the laughable and pathetic flaws in this movie, none are any more glaring that the absurdity of Danny Glover playing a role that Gregory Peck owns.

Clear for anyone to see is the difference between a good workman quality actor and a truly great actor. When Glover first speaks, I could hardly keep from laughing as I heard him reciting the Ahab's lines. Really sad.

That anyone believed that they could make an adequate adaptation of Moby Dick was just plain arrogance.

I should add that Patrick Stewart made the attempt to play Ahab as well and he missed the mark almost as badly as Glover. The lesson is when an actor has proven that he owns a part, it is a fool's mission for another actor to aspire to play the same role.
