Summer Glau

Anything she is associated with, is cancelled. So don't employ her?

Poor rich Summer Glau. Well richer than me anyway.

I think the only thing she's starred in that could be called kinda mainstream is Terminator? Anyway the chick does pretty much only genre programming, that's kinda the breaks for those kinda actors. Do a whole bunch of projects until something sticks.

She is also kinda cursed with having her own fan base already. That seems to really limit your options as far as shows you might get offered. If you star in any kinda sci fi or cult show, that's pretty much where your gonna be for a long while.

It's a pity for her that the shows she's in do get cancelled, but I'm sure any struggling actor out there would kill for the work she's been able to do, even if she is type cast in sci fi shows.

I think having her own fan base is more of a help than a hindrence. I mean I'm sure she's been hired for these roles because of her fanbase that followed her after Firefly. There are hundreds of other actresses who could do the roles that she's been able to do, but she has more of a name and following, so that would help for casting. Besides, I doubt she would get offered anything. They have to audition for these roles and I would say her agent isn't exploring other roles for her, just keeping her in this genre, which could be want she wants anyway.

It's just bad luck, not really anything to do with any particular actress. These shows would have been cancelled with or without Summer Glau. If anything she may have helped TSCC stay on the air longer than it would have, her chemistry with John Connor was one of the highlights of that series.

I will watch ANYTHING that she is in. I wish they would give her a series of her own. In many ways, her character in this series reminded me of Angelina in the movie "Wanted."

Its not strictly as if she's picking series doomed to fail. Firefly was supposed to succeed b/c Joss Whedon was at the helm and he was still riding high from the Buffy series. Buffy fans were supposed to swarm to the new series, but didn't. Same thing was expected of Dollhouse but, again, the fans just didn't materialze.

Terminator was supposed to succeed since it would continue that 'franchise' but, instead, fell a victim to the success of the movies: continual gun play. TSCC could allow for more indepth stories but, unfortunately, the fans weren't willing to deal w/ episodes that didn't involve either gunplay or, at the least, another major part of the Skynet story arc.

One could go on, but essentially she signed up for a major network series, and said series just never found its footing til after the suits in corporate had opted to kill the series. That's "Hollywood" for ya!

I agree. I have been a big fan of Summer Glau (even before I saw Firefly and Serenity)...she was great in Alphas! But yes, she does have a certain talent...but don't all actors have a "talent" that they play to? I mean hell, look at Angelina Jolie. Johnny Depp?

Glau is a great actress, I will watch anything she is in because I like her. Same as I will watch another Salt or Mr. and Mrs. Smith...people sell things, and when they get cancelled? It's a DAMN shame.

Deja Moo...the feeling you've heard that bull before.

The fact that her shows keep getting cancelled is just bad luck nothing to do with her skills as an actress. I've seen everything that she's been in and i loved them. I agree with venusinfurs-1 that her relationship with john connor in TSCC was amazing. I was just waiting for them to get together. She has done some great shows and for the life of me i can't figure out why they were actually cancelled. Summer may choose to do the same type of shows but that just shows that she knows what works for her.

Do you actually believe in curses or something? Lots of actors end up in shows that get cancelled, and sci-fi shows rarely survive for long...

basically 60% of shows that could be placed in the sci-fi/fantasy genres fail within one season. 20% fail within by the end of 2. The fact that hers happened to be cancelled early is not statistically significant, that's just the nature of genre programming.

She should have been on Stargate then. That show took sooooo long to die.

Summer Glau and Jennifer Ferrin were the the only reasons to watch it. The plot made little sense and it was not a very good show.

In 1938, Katharine Hepburn was declared "box office poison", after which she made 37 movies, won 3 more Oscars, an Emmy, and a host of other awards.

If Summer does a tenth as well she's going to have a Hell of a career.
