Outsourcing ISN'T funny!

This show is making light of a dire situation. I find nothing funny about this series. While more and more Americans are being tossed out onto the street as their jobs are outsourced to third world countries, NBC comes along and capitalizes on their plight by transforming society's misery into a *beep* sitcom. There's nothing funny about poverty, the loss of health benefits, and rampant unemployment. Those call center jobs belong in the U.S., where 10% of Americans are struggling for a paycheck. Shame on NBC for watering down this dire situation.

Not this tired BS again? Let me enlighten the uneducated. The show is NOT making light of any "dire" situation. It is a comedy plain and simple. Murder IS a dire situation, but are you complaining about CSI (or Law & Order, or Criminal Minds, etc) exploiting murder?

Dramas such as CSI, Bones, and Criminal Minds don't condone violent crime.

And NBC and the show aren't condoning the business practice of outsourcing either. Regardless of how you feel, outsourcing is a part of business. I hate the practice of it, but i'm not stupid to let it affect my enjoyment of a tv show.

Gosh....I guess I'll have to quit laughing.

I by the contrary, love this show and it's hilarious. Period.

Ignorance is more of a problem than Outsourcing it seems.

It's happening to EVERY COUNTRY that's not in the third world. All across both North America and most of Europe. Really irks me when someone who lives in a country assumes only things happen there.

I understand what you are saying and where you are coming from, but comedy has ALWAYS been about taking something serious and making fun of it. If you've ever seen movies during the Depression, the same thing was done. It was the whole "laugh so you don't cry" thing. It's also a weird way to take control of what we can, which is making fun of the situation. Although I admit, if I were a person whose job had been shipped overseas, I'd have a hard time watching this show.

The fact is, these call centers exist (whether they should or not) and unfortunately, aren't coming back to the US, so why not make a comedy about this situation? The cast is very talented and funny, so that is why I watch.

"You might very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment."

my husband was a manager at mci and was laid off after he was sent to the philipines to train a call center. he loved the people and felt torn about the entire situation. the people he trained lived in horrible conditions and were sincerely wonderful people. but i have to say i am really having a problem with the premise of this show. on one hand, of course nbc has the free speech right to put this show on the air. on the other hand, i just think the timing of this is off. i just sort of feel like if this show has to be made - it should show both sides of the situation and that would not be a comedy

You should see the original movie that this show is based on. It's not really a comedy but a slice of life, fish out of water type movie. The movie was actually filmed in India and the ending is not really what you would call a happy ending, but more bittersweet. It's worth seeing.

yep...saw it a few months ago. i liked the movie, but i felt a little weird about it too. there are parts of the show i like. it is just a weird feeling to have experienced out part of outsourced and understand the reality of the situation. my husband still keeps in touch with a few of the people he trained. he was very happy about helping the people he helped because their community was so poor. but then reality sets in. there is no winner in this battle. but i will always have a real problem with companies that outsource jobs.

It started a bit shaky, but they're totally capitalizing on Madhuri. Ever since that silent scream, I have been quicker to forgive this show for some of its ... weaknesses.

At least it didn't need *beep* My Dad Says to be terrible and come right before it to seem hilarious by comparison like Better With You. (Though Better With You has gotten a bit better, even without The Shat.)

But seriously, that silent scream was the best thing they could have ever put in the beginning episodes of the show.
