I understand I'm alone in liking this movie but I find the hatred for it funny though. People are too serious in their hatred for movies that are actually pretty decent. This film made me laugh and reminded me of early action movies I watched as a kid. The comments on here for this film make me think I'm one of a dying breed. Others don't seem to be able to appreciate anything for what it is anymore. Guy did an awesome job in this. He was funny, he got in better shape in this, he as always did great acting and I always like those smart ass heroes. Like Rigs in Lethal Weapon. That's what this was like for me... a 90's action sci-fi with wise ass humor.
There are very few movies that entertain you every time you watch it, and this movie is one of them. And the chemistry between Guy and Maggie...gosh it don't need an explanation
_____ It’s not about knowing. You can never really know someone. It’s really about trust. - Richard Castle
pillopants1983, you are not alone, I loved this film. Guy Pierce was tremendous as a sardonic action hero and Joseph Gilgun as "Hydell" was so much psychopathic fun(by the way, if you haven't seen "Misfits" I highly recommend it). Understanding that taste is subjective, I don't get the amount of hatred thrust upon this film, I understand that it is not Citizen Kane or Blade Runner but it's not supposed to be, it is a fun action film.
This movie made me go from finding guy pearce annoying to thinking that he just never gets the opportunity to shine (I thought Memento was an aberration). He was awesome in this movie. And like one of the guys above said, I've watched it more than a few times and it's entertaining every time.
Million movies out there you can only watch once, because once you find out the ending, there's no point in watching it again - or even the first time lol. This one makes me laugh every time, as opposed to movies where i don't even crack a smirk or raise an eyebrow.
How can you not like a good action flick with great lines, and rarefied psycho types, including the hero??? He was just our kind of crazy :)
The haters are probably watching the notebook once a week. I don't even remember if I've even seen that or not.
Lockout is a movie I unreservedly recommend to friends. And they all liked it too, even the girls, tho most I suspect not as much the guys. I think that pivoted on your take of him continually telling her to be quiet and offering to numb her mouth. I thought it was hilarious. "Shh..." "did you hear something?" "No, i was just enjoying the silence" Gold.
Pearce has had many opportunities to shine. L.A. Confidential, Memento, Ravenous, The Proposition, The King's Speech. Check em out, you'll be glad you did!
Yep - I like it too. It's definitely not one to engage your brain in but it's fun & frivolous and Guy is FANTASTIC in it (as always). There used to be way more threads on this board & a lot more balance between the love & hate but it all seems to be negative now for some reason. I'm glad there's at least one positive thread and a bunch of people who enjoyed the show for what it was and weren't trying to make it fit in some other box :)
This movie was just cooool. B grade action A++ yes, if you like Guy, check The Proposition, an amazing and powerful movie. I mean heck, I even loved the Time Machine remake, he was great in that.
I definitely enjoyed this film as well. I'm not sure how it got such a low rating. There are a lot of action movies out there with decent plot/script, great VFX and star-powered cast that deliver competent performances, but somehow the film just doesn't entertain on the level you'd expect (Terminator Salvation was in this category for me, though it was still much better than T3). This is one of those rare movies where everything just seems to come together for a very memorable and entertaining end result.
Guy Pearce was brilliant in it, and I have to commend the filmmakers for casting him and writing a character that suits him so well. I really hope he's able to make another film playing this type of character (a sequel seems unlikely given the film's mediocre ratings).

Nah, Guy be better left making movies of his caliber, ain't there enough guys around to play another cynical buff? I mean the guys who would fit nothing but this kind of roles. Ok, Guy showed he can do it, too, but who ever doubted he can do anything?))
Guy is definitely also great at more dramatic/serious roles, and he should continue to do those too. But who are some of the actors that could have made this film as entertaining as Guy did?
