Worst. Adaptation. EVER.

Holy *beep* where to start? I think the first inkling that this would be a complete disaster was in the first few minutes where they had a grown man walking on his knees pretending to be a Munchkin. And it was all downhill from there. Dorothy Gale is now in her 30's but talks like a preteen cartoon character. The comedy bits are forced and terrible. The special effects are sub-par. Some of the costuming and art design is interesting, and the old pros who show up to collect a paycheck at least know how to act. But the rest? Complete and utter fail.

PS: I looked up the director and he's done some stellar work on for Asylum, including their shameless ripoff of the Transformers, which they called Transmorphers. If OZ was this guy's attempt to bust out of the basement and go legit, he blew it.

Not recommended for anyone, anytime, anywhere. Depressingly terrible.

I agree with everything you just said.

Funny you should say that: The actress who played Dorothy was actually IN Transmorphers! XD

EDIT: Let me just add that in addition to the bad acting and horrible effects, the tone was completely inconsistent. It didn't know whether it wanted to be camp or darker than the children's story. Not only that, but the soundtrack and sound mix are HORRIBLE! The soundtrack is insanely bombastic, even when Dorothy is FEEDING THE ANIMALS ON HER FARM! It's so loud and obnoxious that you can barely hear the actors over it.

In my opinion this isn't just the worst adaptation of Oz, Its the worst adaptation of anything. People complain about Return To Oz, Tin Man and the 1939 film (rare but people do it) but those movies are Citizen Kane in comparison with...this!
