This is why the British laugh at our TV shows

What a piece of crap. It had me wondering if this was John Eisendrath's first try at TV, but no, this guy has actually worked on some other projects.

The best thing for Jimmy Smits career would be for NBC to bury this thing as soon as possible.

reply

Amen to that. I wanted to like it. I really did. Yuck, what a monumental piece of crap.

reply

i watched the pilot and wanted to like it because of Smits who usually does a pretty good job with his charecter. so i agree, Smits needs to move on to something else.

i dont think i could possibly sit thru another episode watching the Carly Pope character. shes an ok tv actress but the Lucinda Pearl role is just too way over the top for my tastes.

2 thumbs down on Outalw.

I'm British and we don't laugh at your TV shows example Mad Men and True Blood.

reply

There are prettier actresses on Hollyoaks than Coronation Street.

reply

I agree that there are some good American TV shows, but the two that you mentioned are on premium cable channels which we have to subscribe to and pay for.

Our broadcast standards don't allow for shows such as Mad Men or True Blood on over the air "free" channels without editing.

reply

Mad Men is on AMC which is not a premium cable channel.

From what I've read lately, the BBCs creative is not doing well at the moment. That's not to say that there's not great British TV – I love the Doctor Who reboot, and Moffatt's Sherlock is not bad, either – but the American TV industry is certainly competitive. And bigger, which helps.

Not that Outlaw is a shining example. It's right about where The Deep End was last year – it'll probably get canceled after the first six already produced get aired. It's tolerable, but not The Good Wife.

If you're looking for crap that's killing the world, look to reality TV. The fact that so many of them get shockingly good ratings never ceases to depress me.

What a stupid post. WTF do the British have to do with anything?

Even if they are as you say laughing at our shows (I wasn't aware I was involved with the show), but who cares!!!!

Let's do it to them before they do it to us.

reply

In any case, at least occasionally US broadcast tv produces a really good drama. Problem is, it often doesn't last long (like "Kings" last year).

"The truth 24 times a second."

reply

Stupid post but ya this show is terrible.

While Britain is years ahead on sitcoms and always will be, American dramas of recent have been amazing.

The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Sons of Anarchy and the list goes on. Im British and i love these shows much more than anything in recent history from England.

Not seen the subject TV series however haha not sure how i even ended up here..
