Fat Whiners

This is a great article that perfectly expresses what I think about those who make excuses for being fat.

I have problems with skinny people who think because they're skinny, they're automatically healthy. These people are so unaware of what they eat and how they live because it doesn't show on their bodies. They chug beer, they eat greasy, fatty fast food, they don't exercise, they make fun of fat people for their lack of "willpower" and they end up being a drain on the medical system because they're not actually taking care of themselves. It's like they think being thin or having a fast metabolism is a pass on doing and eating whatever you want. I know people who can't gain weight but who have bad lifestyles, are lazy, and have high cholesterol etc.

Wow, way to completely ignore the actual article (which was spot on) and bring up a completely irrelevant point. No matter how much merit your post has, it still has nothing to do with the actual article, and.. ya' know... TOPIC, of this topic. I'm guessing you're one of those fatties the article was talking about.

Except there are easily a lot more healthy skinny people than fat. Actually, save for maybe 5%, there is no such thing as a healthy fat person.

I agree to an extent but you make it seem like they're all or mostly like that and are completely ignoring the article. I hate to say it but you make yourself sound like one of the fat whiners he's talking about.

Most overweight people who deny over eating or eating unhealthily have a psychological problem with food. It isn't just a case of 'oh woe is me I can't lose the weight i've tried everything' for every person who has difficulty losing weight. The point is, for me, there ARE biological and genetic traits that prevent people burning fat in the same way as most people. For instance insulin resistance is a condition that affects weight. I get really sick of people talking about being fat as if it is ALWAYS the individuals fault, when I just don't believe that it is. As I mentioned, those with an unhealthy relationship with food, dependancy and psychological issues, such as lying about, hiding or hoarding food should be treated differently from the average person. The crux of the problem seems to be psychological and not a problem with their inability to lose weight through the correct channels.

People who get upset about losing weight and the lack of help available to them (you have to get to a certain point to see a dietician, you will be told that all conditions that have developed even since childhood or that you suspect are genetic are down to your weight and unless you're rich or have an extreme BMI, you will never get surgery to help you) when other problems such as alcoholism and smoking get plenty of help, fully funded by the NHS (England).

It is extraordinarily narrow minded to say that all fat people who are open about their struggle and the lack of support around them are whiners. Why should fat people conform to being the 'big funny guy from work' when being fat is just as much a burden as financial issues, relationship issues and anything else you care to add to the table. Being fat is not just a product of over eating and a lack of exercise, though I know the whole of the UK could benefit from cooking lessons and not watching the TV all weekend.
