New hit network dramas....not until 2015

I think it's going to be at least another five years before we see another quality drama that is successful (both in the ratings and with the critics) and financially profitable for the commercial TV networks.

Let's face it...network TV is overflowing with spin-offs, reality TV junk, police procedurals and lame a$s comedies. I predict that in the next 5 to 8 years series like HOUSE, BONES, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, the Mentalist, Law & Order/NCIS/CSI in all of their incarnations, will either be canceled OR heading to cancellation in the 2015-2016 TV season. Then, and only then, will we finally start to see some new dramas on network TV begin to take hold and get the ratings the networks need to keep those shows on the air.

Until then, just expect more Lone Star-like roadkill cluttering the network TV landscape.

Actually, I think The Good Wife is a quality drama. It's not a spin-off or reality TV garbage. Glee is different and original, too.

But I understand what you mean. I am so tired of reality junk like American Idol and Dancing With the Stars. And how many NCIS/CSI/Criminal Minds/Law & Order spin offs do we need?

House and The Good Wife are the only two shows set in the medical and legal world that I find to be in good quality mainly because of the acting and writing on those shows. The network cop procedural franchises that were mentioned in the previous posts and medical drama shows like Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice are poorly written and acted and generic. I did watch Grey's Anatomy during the first three seasons and I thought the show was ok but not great but midway through season 3 the show started to go downhill and I stopped watching it live on Thursdays. After watching a few reruns of GA on Lifetime last year I realized that a lot of the acting is average at best and it's joke that Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh got Emmy nominations in past years.

As for the crime show franchises like NCIS, CSI and Law and Order those shows pretty much cater to people who are ok with new storylines every week and who only like "good guy" main characters. I do like main characters on some shows that are good people trying to help others but in real life cops, doctors and lawyers aren't the only people who are helping society and the TV world/industry has a hard time trying to market and find viewers for TV shows that focus on characters outside of the legal, medical and cop worlds. I think it's good to watch different shows in which the main characters aren't good people because we get to see a story told from a different viewpoint and think about why the characters do the things they do.
