Why was Senior asked to leave them alone...

...for a few minutes during the pre-deployment speech at the beach? I mean he's part of the team? I'm sure there is a valid reason why but it's escaping me...

I thought about it too.. it seems to me that while he's a SEAL, he's not part of the unit/platoon that goes into action. he's tasks and field work are different from the others... so the LT asks him to leave in order to have a few moment with his brothers in arms (or whatever we call them)

Whats up Doc?

The Senior Chief was not part of the Platoon. Even though he is a SEAL, he is filling another role. Platoons have 1 Platoon Chief, almost always a Chief. It may be a Senior Chief if the Platoon Chief has recently picked up Senior. Once a SEAL hits Senior they will go out of the Platoons. Deployed Platoons are grouped together in Task Units as part of a larger Squadron. Platoons within a Task Unit can operate independantly or together but, that next rung in the chain will be with the Task Unit. Task Units support the Platoons operationally with Command, Intelligence and Technical elements. A Task Units LCPO is typically a 'senior' Senior Chief or sometimes a Master Chief. The SEALs in the Task Unit Staff are still operational but usually will be close in the rear. The movie gives you a small snapshot of a Platoon and Task Unit element. They only show 5 or 6 in the Platoon and 2 or 3 in the Task Unit element. A whole Platoon would be 16 to 18 guys, a whole Task Unit Staff could be 10 to 12.

As for the toast, its a natural compartmentalization mentality. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

You're taking a dump and they call GQ do you pinch it off or finish your business?

Senior Chief Otto is the LCPO of the Task Unit. Chief Dave is the Platoon Chief. Lt. Rorke is the Platoon OIC. Its like any breakout at a company meeting. You meet with your own department, minus the VP.
