What made this show difficult to watch

The forced interpersonal drama under the guise of "character building." The story lines where the crew is trying to chase down escaped criminals... excellent. The story lines where the writers are trying to create character depth... awful. It always felt forced. We get it... Erica loves her daughter. She has to mention it every episode even in places where the statement is completely out of place. In the second season she is talking to Ray and she says something like... you know as well as I that the only reason we do this is because of our daughters. We get it. The writers want you to be sympathetic to her because they write everyone as supposed to be that way... Yeah, she killed 6 people. Not one. Not two. SIX.

The one person they ignore with the character building.. Shea and I contend that gang affiliation and "Syndicate" aside, he is a more moral person than Erica. At least with him I get why he feels everything is racial. I get the tension with him and Lloyd. In fact the relationship between those two is the most genuine feeling character development on the show.

The stupid relationship with the dude in the other office comes out of no where.

I watch it because of the chase. I feel the writers handle that expertly. The episode with the motivational speaker was gold. It was hands down one of the best stories from any television show. The rest of it though... puke.

I agree, this was stupid. At first it was okay, I like that they gave Erica a softer side, but then the way they took the whole thing was so ridiculous and pointless. There was no reason whatsoever to have him flip on her like that, that storyline had zero impact on the overall arc of Erica's story at all, it had no impact on anything and only her and Shea even knew about it when it turned bad, so what exactly were these writers thinking?
