More Silly DVD Covers

Look at the Stukas on the DVD cover for this movie, who seem to have magically lost their fixed undercarraige, and for some reason have swastikas under the wings: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Age-Heroes-DVD-Sean-Bean/dp/B004MNAGBE/

DVD distributors insist on insulting their prospective audience (i.e. people who like WW2 movies) by patching together ludicrous bits of WW2 images to make every WW2 movie seem full of large scale action like another Saving Private Ryan, and with some cool planes. But they get it so wrong they put off the very people they should be appealing to.

One problem with this approach is have you have two different types of films mixed together under similar 'over-hyped and invented action' style covers. Firstly there are thoughtful worthy films that just do not have the kind of action represented on the cover, and the second type is crap low-budget low-skill low-intelligence efforts that use bad CGI to create whatever little action they have.

But mainly this post is about DVD covers.

Other examples:

Stukas missing their under-carraige :

and Japanese Zeros on the Eastern front:
https://walter.trakt.us/images/movies/000/047/056/posters/thumb/4e403b245d.jpg

And here's a German film http://www.amazon.co.uk/Before-The-Fall-DVD-Schilling/dp/B0063G29KE/
which it seems is really a serious film about two young Germans in a military academy, not the shoot-em-up suggested by the DVD cover with two guys wearing German-looking equipment with what seems to be one British and one American helmet, while overhead paratroopers drop from a flight of mixed Allied and German fighter aircraft.

The image of American troops from the lower part of that DVD cover shows up here on a DVD about Finnish troops.http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beyond-Front-Line-DVD-Lindman/dp/B00BM8SV1E/

And the lad with the German kit and British helmet turns up again here http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Final-Sacrifice-Daniel-Asher/dp/B004CFH9GC/

Some of the Spitfires with Operation Overlord markings from Before The Fall turn up in Vienna in 1938 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Best-Enemy-DVD-Moritz-Bleibtreu/dp/B00512YMJ2/

Here's a Spitfire with German markings:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edge-War-DVD-Sergey-Garmash/dp/B009VEYDO0/ Just have a close look at that airscrew, just taken from another plane and stuck on the image of a Spitfire.

Here some Grumman Avengers have strayed from the Pacific to Leningrad: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0432314/

The same planes turn up with German markings (and the props turning) here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bridge-DVD-Franka-Potente/dp/B001V7P30I/

And another American plane from the Pacific theatre (Curtiss Helldiver or a Dauntless?)turns up over Normandy: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Battle-Over-Normandy-Tino-Struckmann/dp/B007V67E28/

More American troops on the Eastern Front at the bottom of this DVD cover http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fortress-War-DVD-Evgeniy-Tsyganov/dp/B004YJZDYQ/

And more Japanese Zeros (actually the same ones as above)turn up here, in Luxembourg http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Undercover-War-Gregoire-Leprince-Ringuet/d p/B004EMS0LQ/

And an F-4 Corsair chases a Zero over the beaches of Normandy: http://www.amazon.co.uk/What-War-May-Bring-DVD/dp/B004EEMC4A/
(It seems the US paratroopers jump from a Hercules in the movie, which features on the back of the DVD cover.)

And here's some Blackhawk helicopters gone back in time to Vietnam: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tunnel-Rats-DVD-Michael-Par%C3%A9/dp/B002BC9Z3I/

More time travel here, 1937 and you really have to see it to believe it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Night-Raid-DVD-Wang-Yongming/dp/B003JT19GI/

Here's some German Spitfires, and that F4 corsair is still chasing that Zero, this time over Holland: http://www.amazon.co.uk/War-Resistance-DVD-John-Rhys-Davis/dp/B0051H0JI0/

Looks like that Zero finally picked up some damage over Germany http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rhineland-1945-DVD-Derek-Simmons/dp/B007WT0TCQ/

It must have crashed near Berlin:http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Downfall-Of-Berlin-Anonyma/dp/B002Z9HBN8/

(I could keep going all night but I am going to stop now)

Unforgiveable. Guaranteed to discourage anybody with an interest in the period. I suspect they hire schoolboys handy with Photoshop to do the DVD art.
