It's unclear. The movie doesn't say anything about their fate.

Agreed, they agree an exit strategy of who will go where, aiming for Sweden then you just never hear what happened!

It was implied Bean and his comrade (was it the Scottish one?)had no chance.

reply

What happened? The movie ended.

It's hilarious almost because I had to "rewind" because suddenly the movie was over and I didn't recall seeing what happened to Bean's character. But apparently I didn't miss anything, the movie just cuts away with not even a satisfying implication. The least you could expect is them taking out their pistols and giving each other that last look or something followed by two shots in the distance but nooo.

Like a review had mentioned here, they must have suddenly run out of money and went "eh, screw it, no one will notice".

reply

spec77 is right...I did the same thing...hit rewind and wondered if I dosed off for a few minutes. Bean just kind of vanishes and there is no mention of what happened. In fact I was almost wondering if the credits at the end would show two specs walking across the snow when the camera was panning, but nothing. Decent flick, but, the ending wrap up was horrible.

reply

This movie is great though..even they make an unclear climax ending..sadly...this movie must have a long runtime like (such as Saving Private Ryan)

reply

He probably died because a) Neither he nor Mac were willing to leave the other to face the Germans, and b) It's Sean Bean. That's what he does.

reply

I came here wondering the same thing.

If I've never seen it before, it's a new release to me!

Me too as it was shown here in NZ this week on Sky and it was like..........is that it???? At least thought the SS soldiers would get their comeuppance or something, but no. Quite disappointing as well as the movie itself, which was strung together.

Ned Stark bites the dust again!

"Austerity" is a word said mainly by people with a full stomach.

It's Sean bean he died he always does :)

reply

Haha, that's true, he does tend to die in most of his films.

I think it was left ambiguous but logic says they wouldn't have made it; they were outnumbered and low on ammo, it would be likely that they took their own lives once they knew for sure it was over as they didn't want to be captured by the enemy.

You don't choose the soy sauce, the soy sauce chooses you.

Watched it again...and toward the end of the Nazis in white encircling the cabin where Bean and Mac are 'pinned down' you can hear a double tap at the end of the music...killed each other maybe...Bean had just said to save a bullet for yourself..would make an ending....

Everyone knows that Sean Bean dies so film producers now don't waste screen time showing his demise.
