the #2 in Mizuki's wrist

does anyone knows what the #2 in Mizuki's wrist stands for, does it have any secret meaning? BRILLIANT movie.

It's not a 2, it's a stylized L for "Lunacy girl" because she was the lunacy girl who killed her parents and took all the game the same day Shuuyu won the science fair. But I think her name was never released to the public because she was a minor.

reply

OMG your right, thank you so much!

reply

Dayvit78 is right in that it's an L referencing the Lunacy Incident, but Mizuki isn't the Lunacy Girl. She's simply someone who idolised her.

reply

now i´m confused :S

reply

She is the Lunacy Girl!

reply

No, she is not the Lunacy girl.

Even, somewhere in the movie she's called a "Lunacy wannabe".

reply

Yes, she was a Lunacy Wannabe. someone who idolised the Lunacy girl.

reply

Shuuya even went so far as to make fun of her for saying that the Lunacy girl was something like her "other self" because she was trying to bond emotionally to something that had nothing to do with her and was too "weak" to do herself.

reply

in the beginning I'm pretty sure Moriguchi says something about how the Lunacy girl has yet to be released back in to society and Shuya and Mizuko have an argument where he accuses her of idolising the Lunacy girl so I'm pretty sure she isn't the Lunacy girl, just wants to be.

reply

yeh, its a tattoo of the "L" for lunacy girl, and Mizuho was just someone who idolised her. as Shuya taunts her later, he says something along the lines of "you idolise the lunacy girl so much, yet you cant even kill anyone. why dont you start with yourself!"

(btw, that actress was STUNNING) :P

I thought she was a wannabee, but now I'm not so sure. I'm leaning towards thinking that she WAS the lunacy girl. Here are the reasons:

1. Of course Shuya (or whoever it was) refers to her as a wannabee. Because he knows no better. The authorities would not release the name of a juvenile killer. That's part and parcel of them getting away with it.

2. The movie tells us, "All she had to do was write a few remorseful words in a juvenile detention center and she was pronounced rehabilitated" which suggests she was released.

3. When the teacher relates the story about the Lunacy girl and says "Even if you kill someone, you're not going to be punished for it" the movie shows us someone typing on her phone or laptop "(Exactly. That's why I did it!)".

reply

she is just a wannabe, Shuya says something like your stupid collecting all these, she has a collection of cyanide

reply

She is clearly a wannabe. When the teacher first explains the Lunacy story, we see the website of Lunacy girl with the L written in the same way. Later when the teacher explains how Lunacy Girl got even followers that idolized her and wanted to imitate her, that's when we are first shown the tattoo on Mitzuki's wrist. Later in the movie Mitzuki herself says something about collecting medicine like Lunacy girl, either for using it herself or maybe better yet for the Wherters teacher (or whatever his name was).

I thought it was a 2 as well. It looked like one.
