So are both men going to end up dead from radiation poisoning?
shareSo are both men going to end up dead from radiation poisoning?
shareThere was quite a discussion about this on Russian message boards. Those who know at least something about radiation insist that the fish that Sergey ate would not do him no harm. So he will definitely live. But here comes the most interesting part. In the final scene, when he tells Pasha that he needs to stay on the island alone, does Sergey know that eating that fish did no harm to him?Seems you can argue both ways. He does know that he will live because he is more experienced and knows things about radiation. OR He does not know, because otherwise why would he puke after Pasha told him the fish had been poisoned.
One of the stories in the film is the conflict between older, Soviet, generation and younger, modern Russia, generation. Thought, it's worth mentioning since most people here obviously do not much about my country)))

The director explained it himself as a conflict between a traditional, more self-reliant generation and a consumerist, technology-dependent generation. That conflict is universal, I don't think you don't need to be Russian to understand it.

OR He does not know, because otherwise why would he puke after Pasha told him the fish had been poisoned.I would certainly throw up as instinctive reaction and precaution even if I knew rationally that there was very little chance that the fish would hurt me. His attitude toward Pasha seems to be, as usual, that Pasha really don't understand much of anything, not that he has been poisoned and is going to die.Radiation is increasingly used to preserve foods, obviously under more controlled conditions than exist in this film. For easy markup in Firefox & Opera, see http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/42255 share
Was Pavel trying to commit suicide, or did he hover over that thing (was that a generator?) in order to get warm?
