Maybe it was late and I was tired, but the second half of the movie I fast forwarded during some of it - times when the boy would be walking, and walking, and walking . . . .
I think some countries use different filming techniques to build up suspense, but to me it was way too slow in spots
I agree. There was some places where the visuals were effective to establish the expansive emptiness, the beauty, the total isolation, and the elemental nature of the place, but after a while, come on, we get the point.
But then there were some sequences where the sound was completely monotonous - crunch crunch crunch ... it wasn't just boring but mind numbing. I think it was an attempt to viscerally relate the audience to the madness that could easily take hold, but I didn't like it either.
The charge has frequently been directed towards Russian films in general perhaps. I agree that I think the film could have been edited more tightly and still essentially told the same story.
