HATED IT!!

This movie tries way too hard. The old guy's "soliloquy" is like every emo film students scene.

Missed half of the film but watching it right now and I definetely don't like it (weird and rather boring) eventhough I'll give Emily Browning an A for effort...

I too thought this movie was pretty horrible. So slow, so interesting, didn't suck me into the story at all. Nothing had any purpose and if it did it was very hard to even care. Even her sick friend...that was just a complete waste of time. Just alot of pretty scenes. I think she did a good job for what was given to her but overall the movie was just a big pretentious ball of nothing.

Vague, empty,emotionless wasteland.

Emily Browning makes Kristen Stewart look brilliantly alive & animated.

Surely they/she can find better vehicles than this?

It's called nuance. It's a particular style of filming that not everyone likes.

Again, it's called a nuance performance. Not everyone enjoys it, but it's how her character was supposed to be played. The title of the movie isn't just referring to her "occupation", but also how she lives her life "sleeping" through every day in a metaphorical sense because she doesn't really seem to care about anything. Until the end when she finally has a breakdown and "wakes up" and starts to care.

Just because it has a name doesn't mean it's good. She's "sleeping" through life...yes we get it. But why should I care? This emotionless, vague, and too serious for it's own good movie didn't make me care that she didn't care. I guess a nuance performance is not my cup of tea.

I didn't say it had to be. I clearly stated in my post that it's a style of filming that not everyone likes.

reply

thats like defending Michael Bay movies as good just because he has his own style... blowing everything up
that makes no sense, no matter the style this movie and this director sucks

This movie wasn't made for you. It was made for people like me, who love nuance, slow development, meditative feel, and some fresh ideas. To me this movie was a treasure.

The good thing is that there are there is a great variety of movies out there, to satisfy both our tastes.

I don't think this movie was supposed to be "sexy".........

reply

It's one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Awful!

I found that scene entrancing and most of the film was beautiful and eerie. I suspect the reason so many people hate it, aside from it being an art film when the trailer suggests it has more of a sraight forwards narrative, is that Lucy is so difficult to understand. Her self-destructive and seemingly aimless actions perhaps make it a hard film to invest in emotionally, despite the excellent performances and direction.

I think it was intended to be an emotionless movie about sex. How men don't need emotion to get off. Men just need hot girls.

I didn't like the movie though. I didn't like the main character. I thought it would have been a much better movie if I liked her. But maybe the director wanted us to feel indifferent about her. Not sure.
