No penetration? THEN WHAT'S THE POINT???!!!

Having sex with an unconscious women is wrong, putting it mildly. But my point is what were these sicko men getting out of it??

Here is an unconscious girl, do anything you want, just do not have sex with her!

What could they possibly get out of that??

In the back of my mind I seem to recall that Lucy was told (when she was persuaded/hired to do this) that all of the men were impotent. I guess the best they could do was grope a sleeping girl (sleeping so that the men wouldn't be embarrassed). That's just a guess.

Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits them, I don't give a f### how crazy they are!

It's ok if you are but you must be a virgin to post a topic like this. There are so many things wrong with thinking there isn't anything to get out of non penetration sex let alone all the emotional things you get with being with someone. The way this movie was it pointed more towards just being close to a young person on a very close and sexual level. You'll learn there is more to sex and being with someone than just penetration.

I'm just thinking that it's odd, I mean of course there are other things you can do but wouldn't it be tempting for the guys to break the rules?

How can you get an emotional thing with an unconscious girl?

I suppose if they were old guys, which I've only just got...it would feel good for them to be near a young girl that wasn't a hooker...I don't know this movie was peculiar.

How about you think just for TWO SECONDS about the circumstances? These guys are old enough that it's highly unlikely that any of them can get it up without serious help. And frankly, it's super common that old men lust after young girls, but young girls generally want nothing to do with old men (unless they are looking for a sugar daddy). So this is a way for them to have access to young flesh without feeling ashamed about it (didn't you notice how Clara kept saying "there is no shame here"?), without having to worry about the girls being disgusted by wrinkled skin or sagging anything or whatnot, and they wouldn't be *able* to penetrate them even if it were allowed. As another poster mentioned, there is SO much more to the sexual spectrum than just PIV intercourse.

reply

They are old, but not ancient. Some might have problems, but that's nothing that popping a pill won't fix, a "truckload of Viagra" wouldn't be more effective, nor would fingers shoved up the ass! The woman directing this is just a tool, and has the same harebrained idea of hookers as Sophia Coppola's Somewhere

reply

Men are not usually all that emotional about prostitutes. And yes, even with no penetration, paying for any form of sexual favors is still prostitution. Considering that age of these men, it is probably more comfortable for them to deal with an unconscious girl so they don't have to worry about embarrassment.

reply

A lot of these men are so old they're past the point of having a libido high enough for sex. They might be lonely, they may just want to touch or look at her. The fact that there isn't any sex is supposed to make you thing. They want the viewer to ask them self what these men want.

This, coming from someone who liked "The Virgin Suicides"?

I am flattered that you took the time in out from your busy schedule to look at my board history. But not once did I say I liked it. As a matter of fact, I spent time criticizing the film "The Virgin Suicides" and how it treated female sexuality as some form of disease.

So, Sleeping Beauty: Pretentious Bollocks - coming from someone who DIDN'T like "The Virgin Suicides"

Is that somewhat clearer?

reply

Really? I better read more carefully, then. While it's true none of your posts on that board even mentioned the movie and instead engaged more with the posters on the thread, I assumed that, since you were commenting on a board for the film, that you had some positive interest in it.

Consider me properly chastised.

I would rather watch "Sleeping Beauty" once a year for the rest of my life than re-watch a single frame from "The Virgin Suicides" or, truthfully, anything by the talentless Sofia Coppola, ever again.

Sorry that was rude, I have this habit of going on imdb after a few glasses of wine.

I think most of the regulars in IMDB post after a few glasses of wine. :)

You can't survive on the IMDB boards without a few glasses of wine.

The weird thing is, old men can still have sex, unless they had some sort of physical health issue. I think they were just weirdos.

reply

I doubt those old men can even erect

reply

The problem is everybody thinks of everything in terms of sex. There are things that transcend sex. This movie is about BEAUTY. It is about something you can't touch. It is about something you can't hold on to. It is about something that you CANNOT penetrate.

I find it ironic actually that someone would mention "The Virgin Suicides". Not only do I really like "The Virgin Suicides", but to me it is a very similar movie to this (albeit better). Another movie in this vein is "Picnic at Hanging Rock".

Men can "have" women one way or another, but we really want most in women is something we CAN'T have. It's a mysterious and haunting thing that always eludes us (and probably causes a lot of heartbreak for women when men are dissatisfied and reject the real human being). Of course, even these old guys could have popped some Viagra and done the girls in every orifice, but that's not what they were after. Nor is that what this movie is really about.

reply

You. You are smart.

reply

"but we really want most in women is something we CAN'T have."

Okay. However that's a prescription for perpetual unhappiness. Same as Groucho Marx's not wanting to belong to a club that won't have him. Not all men feel this way, BTW, which is a good thing.

To the OP: it was obvious to me that these old men couldn't achieve penetration even if that's what it was about for them. It was really about control over someone powerless to the point of unconsciousness, and as another poster said, having some sort of sexual contact with young and beautiful women who, if conscious and not overt prostitutes, would have nothing to do with them.

reply

I assume you haven't read The House of Sleeping Beauty by Kawabata or Memoirs of My Melancholy Whores, which the film drew from. The men in those novels are old and impotent. They want to be in bed with youthful unconscious beautiful girls, which doesn't involve any penetration just to feel alive again without being shameful. There are something more meaningful than sex. TWo strangers can connect with each other without having to have sex.

reply

"There are something more meaningful than sex. TWo strangers can connect with each other without having to have sex."

What conceivable connection could there be between two strangers when one of them is unconscious from beginning to end?

reply

Come one guys, you people are just a bunch of sick pedophiles even if the girl is of legal age still she looks quite young even underage.

There are tons of different fantasies/fetishes/desires.....in the world that someone figures out and decides to fulfill....this is just one of them. Yes, it seems odd to the average person.....but most of these men are old and the assumption can be made that they aren't the most active sexually or even capable.....it is not surprising that they still want to experience the beauty of a nude young woman in bed.....however, I did take a more negative view on the whole scenario personally.....I thought of necrophilia and I thought of how many men want dominance more than interaction and some want a woman to be perfectly silent...some may desire to have sex with someone sleeping....or someone helpless....there are a lot of different things that could be assumed to be the reasoning behind the men being there.
