(two seconds of) life after life

Well, I guess most of us hope that there is "something" after this life. Unfortunately I'm personlly pretty convinced that there isn't. In case there really is no infinite afterlife however I've always had this bizare wish - in relation to radical muslims - that there was just two seconds of life after life. Just two seconds for suicide attackers to realize that they wouldn't get the rewards they expected, eg salvation, chance to meet God, dusins of virgins... Just enough for them to realize that what they have done was all in vane.

I really liked the movie, it plausibly discribed faith and belief among extremely religious people, to me as a nonbeliever. I found the monks choice of staying credible knowing that they believed in an afterlife. The atmosphere and the emotions displayed by them through their rites and singing affected me. I even in some way envy them of their capacity to believe. I just hope that in case there is no afterlife, that there arent the two seconds either. Especially for Christian who in my opinion abuses his position to convince the two-three munks who initially wanted to leave.

I truly respect those who believe that what these monks did was right. Movies that deal with controversial issues like religion and politics, are in my opinion great when the manage to speak to viewers regardless of their viewpoints. In this case I even believe that radical muslims would find that the movie represents their viewpoints.

Nice post.

I disagree that Christian imposed himself on the 3 monks who wanted to leave. We see him with Christophe only and then only after (what we must imagine) are nights of torment, such as the one we witness. He talks to Christophe about love when he does seek out his brother to support him.

The distance is nothing. The first step is the hardest.
