OK for 13-year-old?

Anyone who's seen this and has children, would you let your 13-year-old girl see it? Can you describe any questionable scenes? She's pretty much already heard all the curse words out there, so language isn't much of an issue, but what about sexual/mature content?

Thanks!

What kind of person is it who asks total strangers to give an opinion on what her 13-year-old daughter should see? This is totally unfathomable to me. Nobody out here knows your daughter. What are you thinking?

reply

really, i swear every
R rated film has somoen ask that question.

damn, if its rated R then most likely its not ok, but it depends on your philosophy. thats up to you.

me, i dont believe in protecting kids from reality...theyre gonna see it eventualy.

but you know your kid better than we do

if you even have kids

reply

A bit of strong language, but it'd be a PG film other than that. Pretty mild but it's a very good film.

"Where do you want to go?"
"Wherever you want to take me."

reply

I figured it was R because of the language and marijuana smoking.

reply

It's fine if you are ok with the "F" word. It's pretty much the only reason it's an R-rated movie. Only two moments of pot smoking, and neither glamorize its use.

I want results, not excuses!

reply

They curse a bit, Jeff at the beginning takes a bong hit, and smokes weed really briefly. I personally say it's o, but yeah there is no nudity or anything.

Other than some pot smoking and some swearing, I don't think it's anything the average 13 year old hasn't heard or seen before (probably even on TV). On a personal note, however, the movie is actually more of a drama than a comedy and I think a 13 year old girl might find it slow and perhaps even boring. It mostly relates to adult relationships and what it means to find meaning in your life as you grow older. I'm not sure it's something she could relate to, being so young. There is a moment where two women share a slight and chaste peck on the lips, so depending on your moral philsophy, I am not sure how you feel about it. All I know is there were three 17 or so kids in the audience and they walked out early, bored out of their minds.

reply

For all I know, you may have both seen it by now. However, my "feeling" is to say, "no" to having your daughter see it. She'd be bored to tears. Really.

My girlfriend and I liked it . . my friend is a lot older than me, and she couldn't quite see the meaning of it. I had to explain it to her. If that's the case, and we're grandma ages, then how would a teen view and understand any of this? It's what I'd call, an adult movie. An believe me, NOT because of the bong and the language. But because the content is something only adults can truly understand. Wow! Whatever you've chosen to do, it's nice that you have taken the time to ask for direction.

reply

Absolutely NOT okay for a 13 year-old. I would recommend, instead, THE BROWN BUNNY.

I believe Jessicahorowitzross's reply is perfect. Saw it & I was bored & I'm old; it took almost two hours to get to a great ending which almost made the
$11.00 ticket worthwhile. Subject is a true one about how peoples' lives get in ruts & what's the true meaning of life but it was hard to relate to these far out characters. I know real people who have had the same or similar experiences & no one would act as they did in the movie. I almost came out of the movie disliking everyone until the end. I saw it last night & am glad I stayed to the end but cannot recommend it to anyone. Wait until it comes on TV & see it for free.
