the atheist (spoiler)

The show missed a chance in the episode with Matt the Catholic atheist. It could have been an opportunity to say something interesting. Both about the issues, but also about how each side behaves when they clash. But as usual Adam's main worry was jealousy. Like, if Matt had been a frumpy atheist all would have been fine.

Rather than treating us to arguments on both sides, they took the easy way out by killing Matt off. With Matt safely dead, Adam is free to give a homily about heaven and wins by forfeit.

I think that would have taken the show off into philosophical realms that it has decided not to concern itself with. Most of us have come to some sort of decision on whether or not we believe, and it's a debate that will be never-ending between an atheist and a believer. In my experience, the conversation eventually palls and neither side will ever be satisfied with the outcome. Why entangle the show in an un-ending debate when there are plenty of other equally complex -and funny- situations?
