Akbar

I taped and watched Ninja last night so I could skip all the fluff and commercials.

Wish I would have taken notes of all the Akbar stupid remarks before I deleted the recording.

A couple from memory (so not very accurate)

"I can see why they call him 'The Live Wire', 'cause he's electric!" (OK but why is he "electric"?)

After a competitor who was taken out due to a fever "This is exactly why we have alternates, for situations like this" (why else would they have alternates?)

Akbar certainly had some real wowzers last night, but the boneheaded comment of the night actually went to Matt this time. When Sean McColl was running stage 3 and on the last part, he's said something like: " All Isaac can do is sit and watch! ...... and he'll get his shot up next" Talk about a total brain fart, haha.

Is he contractually obligated to not say his own name? Matt Iseman intros and outros the shows saying both their names. Every. Time.

reply

At least once, it would be nice to hear Akbar say his own name.

reply

Wouldn't it be funny if it turned out Iseman had been pronouncing it wrong the whole time?

P.S. I can't believe that Akbar's agent hasn't made him change his last name to something easier to pronounce, like "Smith"

Prior to the show his name would’ve been the best thing he had going for him. Akbar was a fringe NFL, he wasn’t very good. His older brother was a successful player for the packers, and he had a cool nickname, because his initials shortened to KGB. Akbar was mostly got attention because of his name, and he even tried going by AGB. Even though it doesn’t make sense. But prior to ANW. That is who he was. The younger brother of a more successful player.

He does on the college championships...Kacy is the sideline reporter.

One of the things about Akbar that annoys me the most is the way he does that high-pitched "WHAT?!" scream of his. On the 1st episode when one of the competitors (can't remember which one) finished the I-Beam, he said "What?" and then immediately followed it up with the annoying one, almost like he suddenly remembered that that's his "trademark" now.

My favorite part is you talking about how his comments are stupid, (yeah the are rough) but you said you taped it. Still using a VCR? That's pretty stupid.

Wow. Easy there. Hate I called you out on something. Guess you can joke about other but can't take it.

Missed the point entirely. You saying you taped it was stupid. You were talking about people saying something stupid and you yourself said something stupid. I didn't call VCRs stupid.

This thread is brought to you by the letter B. B is for butthurt.

"Little Mary is butthurt because someone joked around with them on a message board."

Take it easy man. It was just a joke. Just messing around. A lot of people call it taping when they mean recording. Like they call those self balancing scooters "hover boards" when they don't hover.

Your short and choppy sentences can be a sign. You saying I have some sort of defect is another sign. You said using all caps is a sign of yelling. Well you just yelled. If my intention was to show you are mad, you did it for me. You could have said all of that with normal font.

This back and forth is stupid.

That guy says the stupidest crap. And what a crazy name.

I couldn't believe it when he said the 54-year-old competitor was born in 1951. Apparently, simple math isn't his forte.

I guess I am in the minority here, but I LOVE both hosts! I think they really try to continue to spirit of the Japanese show. They bring a lot of fun to the show, IMO.

Last year I made a list of Akbar's most cringe worthy quotes. This year I haven't had the stomach to keep my recordings and write them down but there have been some doozies and incredibly stupid remarks.

Victory is Mine!!!

They do have some comedic value. I'll never forget "...be my daily grinder".

Akbar and Matt keep the show fun! His one-liners are usually hilarious or silly, but not mean-spirited. And they give pointers on the athletes technique, which helps me to better understand what is going on. As a non-athletic person, I really appreciate it.

reply

I love Akbar. He is the best co host yet. He is exuberant and is engaged in what is going on. His mistakes and occasional cringy remarks are no big deal to me. He's funny and brings a good positive vibe to the announcing. He's funny on NFL Redzone too.

It could be a matter of perspective, though. ANW has had a history of face-peeling bad announcing so he shines by comparison.

Interesting to see hate toward him.
