One of the worst films of 2010

This movie was full of cliches. The whole plot including the ending was predictable from the beginning. It has no realism at all.
The movie is driven neither by its character nor plot.

reply

Wrong.

It is a movie, it's not supposed to be entirely on realism. Show me all the war movies you supposedly cherish for such outstanding realism.

The movie is a breathe of fresh air from typical Hollywood movies. The movie had great character development, great action scenes, great atmosphere/music and...TA-DA, ended like it was supposed to.

Worst movie of 2010? Cool story bro, you lost all your credit for even talking about movies.

It filled it's purpose for a good flick. It's not a documentary, and it's not platoon.

Keep trying.

The Ascent http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075404/
Born on The Fourth of July http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096969/

And many more.

All of these are also (much) BETTER films.

You're welcome.

Btw, the only scenes remotely realistic in 71 Into the Fire were parts of the opening sequence (not even all of it, the final human-wave charge through a narrow street was laughable, they would get mowed down by that belt-fed Browning machine gun nest on the barricade (which wasn't silenced, just stopped firing), and if not they would not allow these trucks to retreat slowly; their literally marching column on the way to the city was silly too).

^ Lol, that list has got to be the greatest joke in the history of IMDb message boards.

Care to elaborate?

Thought you won't.

Yup. You are a pussy. This is coming from a third party.

Don't run away, coward. Defend your ideas.

Know-nothing.

Just reading your review of Doom on your page tells me a lot about you.

I agree with the op in the point of the movie fulfilling a few annoying cliches and stereotypes, but the end made up for all of it.

Honestly I shed many many man tears when the two survivors where shown.
😨😭😓

reply

LOL ^^

I'll give you:
Das Boot
Downfall
Letters from Iwo Jima (get the title right)
Teh Battle of Algiers
Stalingrad

But really.... ?????
Black Hawk Down (American US-is-best-fest)
Jarhead (not a war film)
Gettysburg (!!)
A Bridge too Far (unrealistic)
The killing fields (not a war film - have you actually seen it ?)
The Battle of ***England*** (Britain dear boy - not England)
The Pianist (huh ???)
Flags of Our Fathers (not a war film - its a film about american propaganda)
Born on the fourth of July (really???)

Your list has adds so much credibility to your ocmments on 71-Into the fire.

reply

Maybe you should elaborate some more. And yes, it's all war films.

The Pianist was pretty much extremely realistic, especially as compared to Uprising (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0250798/) where the Jews are gunning down Germans left and right and blowing up Tiger tanks (seriously). But of course it was based on a true story (a memoir) and even the director was a survivor of the Holocaust in Poland.

Here it's called Battle of England (Bitwa o Anglie: http://www.filmweb.pl/film/Bitwa+o+Angli%C4%99-1969-4202). And yes, it and A Bridge Too Far were very realistic for this era (1969/1977) and so should be given their due.

And what's with your anti-Americanism? In that case you should rather like Born on the Fourth of July even more, now you're being pretty schizophrenic after your "American US-is-best-fest" comment.

I also see you voiced just no opinion about Fires on the Plain, Katyn, Paths of Glory, Tobruk, The Grey Zone, Cold Mountain, Son of the Morning Star, Army of Shadows, Casualties of War, In Darkness, Andersonville and The Ascent. Why?

I would add more films to the lists, but often something fails to click, like the lack of automatic rifles and machine guns among the Americans in The Thin Red Line, in Hamburger Hill the NVA all have American machine guns, and in Saving Private Ryans it's Spielberg giving the Germans these stupid skinhead haircuts among other things. (Both The Thin Red Line and Hamburger Hill also made the US casualties appear worse than in it was in the real battles and even in the novel, which is also unrealistic.)

And 71 is just retarded. It's even worse than Uprising. It's like this Rambo parody scene in Hot Shots II, like Green Berets with John Wayne but with Red Dawn style commando schoolchildren. It's roughly as realistic as these 1980s films with Chuck Norris (Delta Force, Missing in Action, what not) or these idiotic Russian films about the spetsnaz from the 2000s.

reply

Yea. I totally agreed. The North Korean soldiers were unbeliveably retarded. It is just plain old silly. It wouldn't be even remotely close to how real war is conducted.

I mean, it is not that luck keeps on favouring one side. It is that they do insane things that why on earth would you do that?

reply

The real North Koreans were pretty hardcore. That they rolled the South Koreans in the initial invasion can be explained by the Southerners being so much weaker (on purpose, the Americans refused giving them tanks, aircraft and heavy artillery fearing they would invade the North), but at the Pusan Perimeter they kept attacking (skillfully) even after the defending UN side had more men and more firepower, and the losses on both sides were still comparable.

The Chinese "volunteers" were not bad either, especially considering how little heavy weapons they had, mostly just light infantry, almost guerrillas but on a frontline (and an average Red Chinese soldier in Korea had just either a cheap submachine gun or only a bag of stick grenades - and the latter was supposed to pick up a gun from a casualty, or to capture it, crazy stuff).

reply

Oh, and it's also "Listy z Iwo Jimy" here, I "got the titles right" I just kept thinking about our titles.

reply

Im not sure if its the worst of the year, but I sure didn't like it a lot.

reply

I absolutely agree.
It was painful to watch and to listen to. Awful patriotism, propaganda and hidieous directing.
Korea does have some awesome action films but this is not one of them.
As a Korean, I'm ashamed that this has 7.4 while The Host has just 7.0
