Banksy: Sour Grapes. MBW: Marketing Genius!

It was obvious to me that Banksy used Thierry, because Banksy wasn't that much of a deal until his street art was documented, ie: filmed by Thierry. Banksy even said in this film that his art needed to be filmed, because it was so temporary.

And yet his message in the film is clearly that he himself MADE Thierry a star artist, when it was partially the other way around FIRST!

Yes, Thierry might not be the sharpest guy, but he has passion and he knew how to market his show to get the most attention from the media.

I did not like the way Banksy took the piss out of this guy. People think documentaries are factual. But documentaries are never impartial. They always have a one-sided message.

And Banksy's message here is:

"I'm the real artist here; not Thierry. I flippantly told Thierry to go off and have a little art show, because I needed him out of the way, while I made sense of the thousands of hours of film footage he shot, after he turned out to be a *beep* film editor."

I also notice Banksy's film never divulged whether Thierry was ever paid for his filming work, or for any of the tapes.

I hate it when people get taken advantage of like this. This poor simple man has been made a fool of, and he worked his ass off!

It's only the luck of the draw that Bansky got successful. He could have been arrested and done time, and that be the end to his career. He should be pleased for other people's success; not bitter.

I've gone right off Banksy after watching this film. What a sad little man.

I don't believe the hoax theory. Banksy is not as clever as all his disciples like to think. This is a genuine documentary, where Banksy wanted to tell us how superior he was as an artist, compared to Thierry.

But he ended up showing us how miserable and bitter Banksy is instead.

He's an Art Snob.

"Look at it this way; in a hundred years who's gonna care?"

According to the movie, Banksy had his own show which Hollywood stars attended, his works were being sold for loads of money, and his work on the apartheid wall in Jerusalem made the news; all of this before Mr. Brain Wash even came to existence, and Thierry was just a camera boy following Banksy around.

This poor simple man has been made a fool of, and he worked his ass off!

He made loads of money selling "art" without producing anything of substance. Yes, they used him to make a point, but no one forced him to do what he did.

That's pretty much how I feel. It's hilarious how the artists at the end are so jealous of his mass produced art making millions.

Well, if you want to be technical about it.... Thierry's entire marketing strategy was to tout his association with Banksy, so (in my view) Banksy contribution to mankind is still vastly superior.

In fact, Banksy purposely doesn't market himself whatsoever. Even his own identity is something he doesn't share. His art speaks for itself.
