Martin Henderson...annoying!

Does anyone else find his voice annoying?!!

I was watching the first episode and I was thinking his character was American and then he sounded a bit Australian to me when he spoke. It all makes sense to me now that I know he is from New Zealand. But come on, obviously he is not skilled enough with his American accent so they should have just made his character Australian or something. The 'kind of' American accent is so annoying!

I think that's his real accent that he's using. He was in the movie the Ring (with Australian Naomi Watts) and they both hid their accents perfectly. So if he wanted to, he could speak in american dialect. Also, it could be the decisions of the producers and directors deciding on a whim if he should or shouldn't use the accent.

That is his real voice....you really haven't seen any of his other films have you?? He does a great American accent in his movie Bride and Prejudice also. I was surprised to discover his American accent was faked.. the accent was that good.

I have a funny feeling they're asking him to "tone down" his real accent or something. Because in the first few episodes, it was fine and natural-sounding...and now, it seems to come and go, especially on words where the accent would be strong. Maybe the producers thought Americans wouldn't be able to understand him. Lord knows they hate reading subtitles ;)

Just watching the show from Martin's homeland and I totally agree. He was very Kiwi/Aussie in first few episodes and now he's doing "Americ-lian" accent.

SO: Dear scriptwriters. In the first episode write it in. Even make our Kiwi an Aussie. But don't make him an American with a sh*t as accent. Don't make me come over and sort "youse fullas out, bro, Cos I'll have to give bash".

I like his character but it too bothers me that I can hear his accent coming through at random times.

Hey Microscopicroom
I'm from NZ too (Hawkes Bay) and I was once asked where the bridge to Austraila was.

But I do notice his accent changing alot it is kind of distracting I wish they could just stick with one.

reply

Haha... no doubt. That's gotta be slightly insulting to any NZ'ers out there.

"HEY WORLD,

NZ isn't the poor man's OZ. It's a whole country of it's own with it's own culture, 2100kms (1330 miles) away. Just to make that distance clear, Seattle and San Diego are 1713kms (1064 miles) apart... the height of the entire continental U.S.'s Pacific coastline is LESS than the distance between NZ and OZ.

Thanks."

It's a doctor show where they're off the grid... why do they have to come from anywhere other than the native countries of the actors?

Didn't he live in Australia for 5 or so years though? Maybe it wasn't a slight on NZ... possibly.

Heh bridge. Seriously?

There are a lot of professionals out there who travel for their work. In the case of the show, someone like his character has probably worked all around the world and picked up accents. Any kiwi living/working in the states will end up with a hybrid accent. It doesnt have to be one or the other.

And for all your ignorant comments thrown in there, you may as well make the rest of the cast Canadian.

2 are Canadian. Lol.

People who live in a lot of different counties will often pick up an accent, which will get stronger/weaker depending where they are. So I would say this is his natural accent, and he's probably used to mimicking what he hears in roles and you can't just switch that off. I have a a hybrid accent and people can never work out where I'm from. He sounds more Aussie to me than Kiwi but I know he lived in Australia for many years as he was working on Big Sky which was shooting in the same complex as the TV show I was working on at the time, and we knew a lot of the same people.

It's too cerebral! We're trying to make a movie here, not a film!
