I didn't know about this film, but from the clip you've linked (Thanks btw!) it seems pretty worthwhile. I'll keep an eye out!

No problemo, I agree, it seems like an intelligent film.

Funny you use the word LEGEND.. I came to IMDB, mid-email to someone.
I had just said-- His role at Pope in "The Tudors" was legendary..
albeit, way too brief.
Was happy to see there's a new movie still out there !
I watched " Becket " again, just after his death. I saw it back in 1964.
But I was a teenager-and preferred things like the beach movies, or girly movies. Nothing bored me more, than old historical type movies..
WHICH I LOVE NOW. He was so incredibly fantastic in this movie.
Unreal to think about it not winning the Oscar. ( I think it was up against My Fair Lady- or something that Hollywood swoons over)
But OToole/ Burton---- wow.

This version of the decline of the Roman Empire is laughable! I can only assume that it was a summer workshop and o'toole was kind enough to lend his name and experience. I'm sure that i've seen worse movies, but at the moment those titles escape me.

I'm pretty sure we watched two different movies in that case? You're obviously concerned with historical accuracy over entertainment. I thought there were some fine performances, some lovely dialogue, and it's certainly not one of the worst films you've seen.
I do think that the fact it hasn't been marketed as a film about a saint in the USA is probably half the problem.
