The things you think could be improved in Happy endings,in case of s4

There are no official plans for a season 4 yet,just some hopeful chatter on the internet.

Now first off,I have to say that I generally like this show and I find the core group enjoyable,but I have the impression that the writing could be somewhat improved.
Of course,the cancellation was a wrong decision and this show still still had potential.Also,the scheduling and the airing of episodes out of order didn't do this show justice.

The show could do better with some jokes and it occasionally lacks in character development and even the relationships are stale-I love Brad and Jane,I think Penny is very entertaining,but the show doesn't know what to do with Dave and Alex,both as individuals and as a couple since the beginning.Max basically has one storyline that is recycled every few episodes.
Don't get me wrong,I think that at some point Happy endings managed to find its tone-it's slightly quirky,ensemble comedy,but the plotlines often seems uninspired and derivative,which would be fine,had they been funnier.

I'm writing this post because this show has one incredible quality-it's immensely feelgood,it generates a pleasant feeling,it's friendly and warm,but it needs slightly more inspiration in the writing department and maybe that would help with the ratings as well.

I have the impression that something is simply missing,but I can't seem to put it into words.

Does anyone else have any other complaints about the show that could be solved?

I love love this show, but I do see some of your points here thinking about it. At times it seems like they're kind of lost with Dave and Alex. Not quite sure where they're going with them. In terms of character development, I actually think that most of the characters' strenghts are used more, and the writers are hyping up what's funny about them, like Jane's controlling and planning of everything and extreme dry humor, Brads hilarious extreme metro sexuality and Penny's extreme unlucky strikes, clumsiness and hilarious dating storylines. Like in Friends. BUT was bugs me is the the fact that we never even knew what Jane and Penny's careers were until way later in the series, and I am still unsure! Before Jane worked as a negotiator at that car place, I never understood what she worked with, and I still don't know what Penny and Brad does exactly, even though we have seen them at work. Did I miss something there? Then again you have Alex whom for some reason own a clothing store that doesn't have any customers (which is an ongoing joke of the show) still manages to keep up with the lifestyle of the rest of the group and keep a great and big apartment for herself, when she should be struggling financially with the store (I would assume). Plus the fact that she's supposed to be "the dumb one", I don't get how she can run a store by herself(?) I guess Max is jus supported by his parents, and Dave has the food truck. That being said, I can find stuff like this about any show. It's still great
