Why is Fionna acting like she didn't know about hook up sites???

She's acting as if she's never heard of it and it's the newest best thing just invented only it isn't. People have been hooking up with people they've met online since the 90s.

if everyone was on hook up sites. it wouldn't be the same 50 profiles every day for the past 10 years. aka, not everyone uses hook up sites.

reply

CLEARLY, I didn't say everyone was on hook up sites. But everyone knows about them.

reply

Not everyone knows what kind of experience to expect from those types of apps though. Fiona seemed pretty reserved when it came it because she thought 'oh that'll never work for me.', but when she tried it, she found that she really enjoyed it.

Probably because these newer sites and apps have a faster and more convenient way of doing it. Also, they are better at attracting a younger crowd. Tinder may have loads of 21 year olds unlike eharmony or something like that.

Why is that surprising?

She has an incredibly busy lifestyle, that gives her absolutely no time for anything other than occasions where she hangs out with her best friend for a night or in past relationships. You miss out on a lot (including sleep) when you're constantly busy and that has been the case for her entire life.

reply

Yeah, exactly. Her friend wasn't available so it wasn't like either one of them were looking for meangless hookups. Add to that, being low income, for pretty much all of her younger life they maybe had a prepaid flip phone or whatever. Remember how they used to have to buy minutes early on for the phone. She didn't get an iphone till it was bought for her by the car thief. Heck I'd be somewhat surprised if she even had any apps on her phone that weren't installed by someone else. Sort of like if you have any older family members that don't know about smart phones and they get one... it's a learning curve before they really figure it all out. Let alone setting up accounts and remembering passwords and all of that. In many respects Fionna lived a lifestyle more akin to the pre-internet times.

reply

I didn't, I'm in a committed relationship and have no need for such things. I spend time on sites that coincide with my lifestyle. It's not unreasonable that Fiona would be the same.

reply

I just still don't buy it lol. People don't have to actually go on sites for beastiality and pedophilia to know they exist. But if Fionna didn't know about online hook ups, I guess that just makes it even more new and exciting for her.

I was thinking about how Carl didn't know about VD or a couple years ago when he believed he had cancer. It seems like all the Gallagher's exist in their own reality. I suppose when you're fighting to survive and achieve a level of normalcy you don't have time for the things other people take for granted. I have heard of the sites we're talking about of course, but looking into them is another story. Other than the unrealistic timeframe are they as easy as portrayed on Shameless? To think of all the time I wasted when I was single, the small talk, hangovers, and the walk of shame. I feel like my Grandmother talking about how she had to walk to school in the snow. I used to have to go to a bar...

reply

Ummm I knew of Craigslist, it wasn't until a few months ago I heard about Tender or Tinder. I use none of them.

since the 90s? the internet became a public tool in the mid-90s... and most "normal" people weren't on the internet even 10 years after that...

You just have a very bad memory... The "Android Market" began in Oct. 2008 while the Apple App Store started in July 2008.

For real computers and not stupid phones... match.com started in 1995... when most of the US still didn't have internet access... and eHarmony started in 2000. "Hookup" websites didn't appear until 2004 or 2005. Still not to dating apps until well after 2008 when the app stores started.

Tinder, the app mentioned on this show, started in 2012 and didn't really get going until 2014... even with surveys done in 2015, 2016, and 2017, most people still had never heard of Tinder.

So, when Fiona was introduced to Tinder, those episodes aired in 2016. So, that is very reasonable to believe that she had not been familiar with it... Some people who use garbage like that forget how recently they became aware of it.

So, it was still very new when Fiona started using it... still, many people haven't heard of it and most would never lower their standards to ever use something like that even if they've known about it since it started, way way way back 2012.

This show has been on longer than Tinder has existed... so you're way off on this one too.
