Could have tried harder

I wasn't completely let down by this movie. With such a small budget for film these days, they did a decent job with cinematography and the script was decently written. Yes, this is pretty much Lord of the Flies in space. Plenty of movies these days are blatant remakes of other ideas so that's nothing new.

What didn't settle well with me by the final credits was the fact that this movie was basically a bunch of white boys running around on an island. In the future, are there no people of color? Are young women not allowed to participate in this prestigious game? I was left a bit stunned that in the year 2012 they would still make a movie completely excluding anyone but young, white males. Incredibly disappointing.

Seeing as how this was an independent film, I'm left wondering if the producers/casting/whoever put this thing together just simply doesn't know any young women or people of color hence they didn't cast anyone. Not. A. Single. One.

Wow.

Not having women or people of color is your major complaint?! You have issues.

See people for people and stop with the racism.

Please explain to me why this movie was "incredibly disappointing" because there was not one person of color in the cast in 2012. Are you suggesting that a movie made these days is somehow less than desirable without a person of color? I guess movie makers have to be "bean counters" to put a good movie together using your logic.

The maniac desire to shove a smorgasbord of ethnic actors on screen at every possible moment does lead to some ludicrous moments. Take, for example, the recent Oz the Great and Powerful the prequel to The Wizard of Oz. In Oz the Great and Powerful we see a whole pile of asian, hispanic, and 'of color' Munchkins happily dancing and singing away. All the Munchkins in the original are white - leading one to assume that, between the two films, there has been some terrible war of Munchkin ethnic cleansing with all the non-white Munchkins slaughtered or banished to some distant land.

I don't think that's what Sam Raimi was intending but that's what he got. (Mind you, he was the producer behind TV show Xena which populated ancient Greece with more than its fair share of Maoris....)

I am responding because I was just saying how so few things are new. Everything has been done b4..it must have been aadsome to watch tv in the 60's with something like the twighlight zone. At the time so innovative. But it is rare today to come across something totally new and creative. That is why avatar, gravity, things like that are so much fun.
