Exactly!
She thought she had given up a professional dancing career and felt very sad about it.
She probably felt she was a disregarded painter too, looking for acknowledgment.
I've met a lot of people with misconceptions about their own capabilities.
(and probably I am one of them myself too)
To me, Angela looked like a girl, still, and didn't act adult, didn't take control over her adult life.
She was dreaming and waiting.
But what I've seen of Angela in this movie is: she is soft, she is sweet, has a very nice voice, she's patient and loving with the handicapped sons (who she married in to!), and her daughter looked like a very normal eight-year-old who was well taken care of. She looks like a loving mother!
She was sad over her imagined 'faillures', but couldn't exploit and enjoy her own real qualities.
(the phrase 'low self esteem' keeps popping up in my mind)
