Vince's Catfish Quote

Why on earth doesn't he want to be droll? Or was he just using a word he didn't know the meaning of?

reply

Or how did he know the story he told had just summed up the previous 90 or so minutes and happened to fit the situation (that he was still unaware of) to a T?

Ah, if only life brought everyone's documentary around and wrapped it in such a nice bow-tied package...

reply

It's good story telling from the makers of the doc.

I think they got the name for this film (and subsequent TV series) from that quote. Also, what he describes can be loosely attributed to many stories, not just this one.

You can't have organized crime without law and order.

It's possible (but not certain) this is a faux documentary. They capture a suspicious amount of stuff with a "hidden" camera and parts of it seem a little similar to "My Kid Could Paint That". But, of course, wouldn't that be keeping with the theme if the documentary ITSELF isn't what it seems?

The "catfish" quote is interesting, whether it spontaneously came from Vince or was scripted by the filmmakers, because it has become a term today, yet it has a much more negative connotation than the one Vince (or "Vince") gives it. The origin of that term is interesting whether the documentary is real or not.
