manga and light novels

Is anyone familiar with the DRRR manga and light novels? I'm interested in getting the mangas but only if they expand upon the anime, not just retell the story, and I'm not even sure where the novels are available in an English translation

Light novels are a continuation/part of the official canon.

Manga is just a retelling, albeit arranged differently.
