Three 40-something best friends !??

I knew of this show but never saw it before. While flipping the channels late tonight, I finally saw an episode in syndication. I expected the worst, but it was actually not bad. While not NBC classic comedy level, I was impressed bu the writing and acting. Curious to what people thought, I came here. And I was perplexed by IMDB's brief synopsis of the show. They called it "Three 40-something best friends..." (not including Betty White). None of these women are in their 40's. Both Valerie Bertinelli and Jane Leeves are in their 50's. And Wendie Malick is in her mid-60's. Sure, all three look great. But 40-something!? Come on. Cute show otherwise.

The girls are from L.A. and have been able to afford things to help keep them looking younger. The '40-something' is actually a joke, that regular viewers are in on.

We know they're not in their 40s but the ladies operate under the idea that, once hitting their 30s, they'd start lying about their age. Which unfortunately
goes hand in hand ,with not acting their age. 

As for The Golden Girls, it's a classic for sure. Since it turned 30 this past September. In a way ,yes ,it's kind of the blue-print for this show but in my view, that's where the similarities end.

Golden girls was funny but could also be a very depressing look at
getting older. This show is almost the opposite. Hilarious but rarely serious.

Go for it or just be a gopher!

There is also a hilarious bit with Victoria when someone whispers her real age to her. Since she is the eldest--65 I think?--they play it for laughs. As happipuppi said--it's an in-joke.

But what is pretty amazing to me is that these women are about the same age as the "Golden Girls" were when they were on! 60 is the new 40!

FYI, when the show started in 2010, they were actually 40 something year old women so it was not a lie or bogus. Except for Victoria(was like 59 then), who by the way looks amazing and could easily go for much younger than her real age anyway. The show was about women feeling and looking good and being sexy while finding that men outside of LA found women beautiful and sexy who were not 25 or 30 years old. Also, this show was nothing like the Golden Girls except for the fact that single women living together trying to date being the subject. The Golden Girls(Blanche was youngest) were older than these women(except for Wendie) but I loved them also. These women are not 60 years old, they are just 50+ today, except for Wendie Malick who is 65 and so pretty and does not look 65! Sorry but I had to clear this up because your comment makes these women seem like they are old and they are not old. Even Betty White is awesome and looks great at 90+(which is old). There's no joke....they are 40-something beautiful women which is what the show was based on!

Actually Valerie Bertinelli was born in 1960 which means she turned 50 the year the show came out in 2010, Jane Leeves was the only one actually in her 40s and she was 49 so she wasn't in her 40s for long. I loved the show and thought the women looked great but I always thought the characters were suppose to be in their 50s. There was even one episode where Valerie's character Melanie said 46 was a fake age implying that she was actually older. I don't know where the idea that they were in their 40s came from.

Their fake ages are in the 40s.

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked.

Most of the actors who play high school students are in their 20's.

It happens.

I don't think its something that I will be binging on, but if it's on TV I will watch.

Caught the pilot and episode 2 last night and it is not awful.
Actually really funny.
