Camera Flash when they were on the river ?

I mean i am sure a bunch of you would have noticed this . When they ( Anita and Harper ) are on the boat assuming that they are sailing towards the ship there is this flash in the back ground .

Does it mean that Michael is alive and is "flashing" his way towards them ?

reply

I agree with you. It is likely that he is alive as love calms him down. Judging from his eyes, I think he is first excited by love and so he turns into a zombie, but later, the peace and love calms him down, so he closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. Dropping the medicine onto the floor symbolizes that he does not need it any more because of the powerful of love.

reply

I completely disagree, he had clearly turned into a zombie and if he dropped the medicine because he did not need it anymore, then it was rather because he had lost everything. Gabi was a zombie, she certainly did not love him. Also there was no indication throughout the whole movie that people could recover once the infection broke out.

I took the lightflash as a sign that there were other survivors, kind of a "life goes on" and "we're not the only ones" comfort.

reply

no, neither. in the radio broadcast, it was mentioned that the cities all over Germany will be evacuated by ships. so survivors are advised to gather in the harbors. Anita and Harper are rowing towards Westhafen which is the biggest port in Berlin. that is the scource of the flashlight. by the way, it was also mentioned that the infection will only last a few hours or days, so even some zombies have a good chance to survive.

reply

Well, so the flash WAS from other survivors, in any case it was certainly not from Michael. Yes, it was mentioned that they were trying to get to the harbor because they were evacuating people by ship.

I completely missed that information about the infection lasting only a couple of hours or days though, thanks!

It doesn't really make sense though - if that really was the case then it was really stupid to even go and attempt the dangerous escape by boat. Why not just wait and sit it out then? They were fairly safe in that apartment, had running water and all... even if they had only little to eat, people can easily do without food for a few days and longer if need be.

Guess people just won't always do the most reasonable thing...

reply

Sorry, but you got it wrong there.

The infection can be overcome by the body's immune system ONLY IF the desease has not broken out yet.

At least that was what was said on the radio. Interestingly there was no case in the movie where the desease has not fully broken out in the end - even with medication (woman in the appartment, main character). So we may somewhat doubt the accuracy of the statement on the radio.

reply

Didn't he drop the medicine because the package was empty and so of no use to him anymore?

reply

if I recall correctly there was still one pill left in the pack. it was just hopeless for him to use it at that point as the strong emotional reaction to seeing his girlfriend in her state. What I did think was interesting was how when she initially approached him, it looked as though she sniffed at him, and then didn't attack him even as he embraced her, suggesting that as you are infected, you produce some sort of odor or pheromone that other infected react to causing them not to attack (this would offer an explanation as to why infected on attack uninfected as opposed to each other). That's my take on it anyhow.

reply

You pretty much got it all wrong:

1. the virus takes between a couple of minutes or hours to spread throughout the body but that doesnt mean u turn into a zombie. thats what the adrenaline does so it could be possible to survive by strong medication or an artficial coma.

2. the flash at the end came from the direction they were heading, no way michi could have gone there faster than they did ( besides he was a zombie )

3. the flash means that other survivors or the army found out about the zombies weakness and start to fight back or at least defend themselves sucessful. its meant in a a new day is rising, life will find its way happy end sense.

4. michi was austrian

reply

I think I have to agree with Pink' on this one. Great little flic.

reply

You are wrong, the flash came from the BOW of the ship! They were moving AWAY from the flash.

reply

The two kids are moving toward the flash. Since Harper figured out the flash by mistake, I highly doubt others are onto the flash thing yet. If that was the case then, that could only mean Ulf possibly made it too.

reply

Let's accept for the sake of argument that it was behind them. It occurs to me that they didn't appear to have those large lights on the boat. As such, I wondered if they were set to automatic and were still next to the water where the boat was. After all they'd want the lights to keep zombies at bay while they got away with the boat.

reply

The flash at the end is just bait for a sequel.

reply

"The flash at the end is just bait for a sequel."

Shut up you fool, they could hear you !

reply

It was obviously just indicating that it wasn't only them who had figured it out.

reply

exactly, and why does it matter if they were going towards the flash or away from it? It was neither anyways! haha. They were going past it.

And like in any zombie movie, someone has to figure out they die from headshots first but someone else will surely figure it out, like someone else using their camera or flashlight. Though in real life, I think most cameras take why too long to prepare to use the flash again for that to work out for the general population. And we all saw in Rear Window that it would only hold someone off for so long.

It's possible that either Harper or the girl with him in the boat turned into a zombie, and the other person was "flashing" to keep them at bay...

reply

Other people had discovered the same trick. People are striking back, the fight goes on etc.

reply

The last flash was an exclamation point to end the film.

Smoke me a kipper. I’ll be back for breakfast

reply

...and Harper and the girl is moving in the direction of trouble. 😱
