I'd be happy if all we got was a movie or mini-series.
As always, that is just my opinion.
it's already continuing on tnt....think it's called falling skies...happens after the event
shareNBC owns the SyFy channel, they could always put it there.
shareIt would be great if this show got picked up somewhere else, but in reality saying it's a long shot is an understatement. Too bad, it got pretty enjoyable.
"Struggling is nature's way of strengthening." - John Locke of "Lost"
Has a show ever been picked up by another network? I can't think of a single one.
shareSouthland
shareScrubs, it moved from NBC to ABC, but was always produced by ABC studios, so it was in a unique position.
Southland had to have a huge budget cut and layoffs in order for TNT to renew it.
Southland had to have a huge budget cut and layoffs in order for TNT to renew it.I'd say a huge budget cut would be great for The Event. They've already done a complete overhaul of the plot once (hmmm, what old children?), so what's another one?
I actually like your ideas...
also, I think a lot of shows should cut down to 13 episodes.

I said this before: Other Networks dont pick up cancelled shows that struggled though out its entire season. TE started off okay and started falling from that point on. No one looks at that and go, "Yeah, we should snatch that up!" Not to mention the fact its a VERY costly show! So if its not picked up by another major network and goes to cable its budget will be slash horrendously and I see a lower quality production.
But as I said, TE had pretty bad ratings for a show that was heavily hyped. If it couldnt survive on NBC more than a year, than chances are its not going to survive anywhere else that much longer. And last thing, only 5% of cancelled shows has EVER been given a rebirth someplace else. Its rare. Think of the cancelled shows from last season like Heroes, Flash Forward, Dollhouse, Ugly Beatty etc. Those shows had active campaigns to bring them back from fans...I dont see any of them running on another network now.
Most of time when its over--its over!

family guy was always on fox
shareAnd yeah, most of those shows either were HUGE in the ratings but fell as time moved on or had a huge cult following that didnt have huge ratings, but were sustained at least. TE had neither. Those shows proved that people, at least at one time, watched and saw a potential to sustain an audience.
TE was in free fall after its first month of running, as I said, no one picks up a show that only fell in the ratings, especially one so costly.
I'm still hoping they go the way of Firefly and at least give us a movie.

I wouldnt mind that, although it would definitely just be a TV movie! But yeah, I would like to see some kind of wrap up! But again, this is NBC, the same network that PROMISED both Heroes and Law and Order would get movies when their shows were cancelled to wrap things up.
...And we're still waiting! So even if they announced one, wouldnt hold my breath on it.
You know, as much as this show was able to grab me every once in a while, the thought of watching another whole season kind of sounds... exhausting...
The storyline is entertaining, but it's gotten so complicated, not to mention rather gruesome for my taste.
So, at last we meet for the first time for the last time.
NBC cut 'JAG' after one season, then it moved to CBS where they brought in Catherine Bell as the female lead. Three shows later...
'Homicide' also did a movie to wrap things up after the series finale.

Uh, whats with the insult?? How come some people on the internet cant express themselves without the name calling? What did he/she REMOTELY say to justify that response?
And no, its not coming back. Its over people. As I said, no one picks up shows that died in the ratings its very first season. There has to be a reason like at least a sustain, consistent audience. TE never really had that. It was losing people every week it was on the air.
NBC hasn't seemed to have patience or a talent for spotting good dramas for many years. Others were listing shows that switched networks, even after one season. I provided more examples.
That doesn't mean 'The Event' was good. I liked it, but watched almost all the episodes online because my wife didn't like it. I get it, the ratings sucked. Oh well.
Doesn't make me a dick.
Geez, old sci-fi'ers like me remember Bionic Woman & Wonder Woman leaping networks in mid-production. WW was picked up after ABC dropped it after 2 seasons.
Apparently even Leave It to Beaver jumped from CBS to ABC, but they never had a cliffhanger like The EVƎNT. (I don't recall.)
obviously those were the days when networks didn't give a sh!t about intellectual property. fact is, usually no matter what production company produces a show, the original network who funded it's development and nursed it through the pilot process retains rights to it into perpetuity, no matter if it's shelved or not.
shareNew post in the IMBd news section saying TE is going to SYFY.
We're gonna need a bigger boat.

I hope something happens to the show, some conclusion. My dad has been watching it over here in the UK (channel 4 I think) and has been quite enjoying it. It would be nice for them to tie up any loose ends with a TV movie or something.
18 seems a little young to be mayor. What were you, like, 12?share
