Was Chase cancelled?

So was Chase cancelled?

reply

It just had a new ep this week. U can see it at hulu if u missed it.

Looks like a few more eps this season. I've not heard that the show is being cancelled.

reply

Where was the new episode? My DVR recorded some stupid game show when it said "Chase".

reply

The week before NBC pre-empted it for Minute to Win it. It came back a couple of nights ago and unfortunately was a lamb led to the slaughter.

reply

The week before the show got bumped because the President was on. Your DVR probably didn't record it this week because the episode info was changed to the same info as the week before and your DVR thought it had already recorded it in the last month so it didn't record it this time. I hate it when stuff like this happens because if you don't think about it you forget to go in and tell your DVR to record the show.

reply

I watched it last night and there weren't any scenes at the end . It said it will be back in two weeks with a new episode.

reply

mine recorded the damn game show too....... did u locate it for viewing?? I live in Canada and so the bloody links on the nbc.com won't allow me to watch it thru there....... help! love this show!!

reply

[deleted]

Not quite - they cut the number of episodes ordered back from a full season to a partial one.

Too bad, because it has been getting better.

reply

[deleted]

Actually it was cut to 18 episodes instead of the usual 22 episodes for a full season. 13 episode have already aired.

To many to list but even over here we've got Realality TV crap i'm not bothered about some Z lister in the jungle or some no mark who cant boil an egg.

Exceptions to RTV - Deadliest Catch,Deadliest Roads,Oil Riggers,Coal.

THE HIGHWAY'S JAMMED WITH BROKEN HERO'S

reply

Because reality shows are cheap to make. And as long as they draw even a reasonable sized crowd, I am afraid the networks will continue to make them.

I am proud to say I have never watched American Idol, or X Factor, or America's Got Talent, or Survivor, or Big Brother, or any of that crap. Not even a single episode.

But my wife loves House Hunters, and I love just about anything Gordon Ramsey does, so I guess we are partly to blame as well.

reply

I am too. Here is a link to the Canadian station that carries it. I've missed two shows myself. I hope to catch up later today.

If it does get cancelled it won't surprise me. It takes place in TX. Its a great show. Unfortunately almost all shows today are either cop dramas, medical dramas, game shows, or talent shows...or some random show that surprisingly does well, like Supernatural or Smallville. Chase, since it is a cop drama won't do well because it doesn't take place in NY, LA, or Chicago. Cop shows for some reason don't do well unless they take place in one of those worthless cities. You could do this same exact show and make it take place in NYC or LA and it would do well. I'm a native Texan and think this show is great, but the US has this prejudice about TX. I think this show has much more substance than Law and Order, AND these guys actually know how to handle their weapons tactically (That's another soap box, ie...Glock doesn't have an external hammer but Law and Order still uses the *click click* sound when Benson or Stabler draws a Glock). But it doesn't take place in one of the trendy cities, so it'll die after 2 seasons. Sucks...

reply

Sadly it's already canceled.

reply

Being a native Texan too, I'm sorry to see CHASE fall to the wayside but such is the case in television-making capitals of America where most of the actors 'n special guest stars live 'n work. Nobody wants to travel to Texas in the hot, humid days of summer to make episodes when they can stay in cool, mild climate of LaLa Land California while pretending to be elsewhere: CSI MIAMI is the perfect example..! _______ Having lived 'n worked in Miami area, nobody where dark clothing 'n 'specially not jackets like CSI Detective Caine does ... besides even if one would do something that stoopid, there's no way you'd see their chilled breath when working a night scene like you would in (as ex-gov would say) "Cal-Lee-Far-Knee-A" coming in from the typical nocturnal cold Pacific sea breeze..!!

Worthless? Unless you want to fulfill the negative stereotype of an uneducated Southerner, I'd suggest looking up the word "worthless" and some facts about "those worthless cities." Let's actually see how much these cities are worth, and how much they contribute to the US in terms of wealth, tourism and prestige. Those three cities are the US's #1,2 and 3 metropolitan economies, with NY and LA ranking among the World's top 3. NYC's economy is worth about $1.13 trillion (and controls 40% of the world's finances), LA around $831 billion, and Chicago around $506 billion. All three surpasses the GDP of most nations.

Compare those cities with the ENTIRE STATE of Texas, which is around $1.2 trillion, just a bit more than NYC alone. And all three cities have much more cultural influence and attraction for foreign visitors than Texas, which brings in money.

That sounds to me like those cities are worth quite a bit. Still think they're "worthless" to the rest of the US?

Now if you want to have a serious discussion without childish name-calling, here goes...

> Cop shows for some reason don't do well unless they take
> place in one of those worthless cities

The reasons are obvious. A more diverse city has more possibilities for interesting storylines -- especially when it comes to crime dramas. There are already complaints that the show had too many Black and Latino fugitives -- which is not unrealistic for Texas. In a city like NY, you can easily have plots involving Asians, Haitian voodoo, Hasidic Jews, the Italian Mafia, Russian gangs, Gays, transsexuals, etc -- and they wouldn't seem out of place. Sure these demographics also exist in Texas, especially in academic areas and large cities, but be honest, where do they seem more "at home"???

And frankly, what exactly are you objecting to? That the TV ratings system is democratic and depends completely on viewers' choice? As a *COMMERCIAL* TV executive, how would YOU plan programming if not by viewer's demand? Would you keep putting money into a failed show, despite the lack of viewer and corporate interest? Who is going to buy commercial time? Fox tried it with Arrested Development, but there's a crucial difference: the Fox show had critical acclaim. and Chase does not.

So again, I ask: what is so wrong or illogical with NBC's decision? A Minute to Win It not only has higher ratings (aka viewer interest), but its budget is miniscule compared to Chase. You have a static set and the props consist of household items that costs about $20. There is no travel cost or time, and no insurance is necessary for the cast. The prize money is nothing by Hollywood standards when compared to the salaries of actors and a large unionized crew. Finally, game shows don't require fresh ideas every week.

> You could do this same exact show and make it take place in
> NYC or LA and it would do well

Pure speculation and illogical. If that was true, why didn't the writers and executives simply put the show in those cities? After all, wouldn't they want the show to succeed?

Face it, most viewers considered it a mediocre show not worth their time, and it had nothing to with locale. Indeed, Chase didn't even use Texas well. Consider non-NY/LA shows like Spenser for Hire (Boston), Golden Girls (Florida), Hawaii Five-O (Hawaii) or even today's Hot in Cleveland. They made use of the locale in their story lines (and not just the scenes).

So do yourself a favor and look beyond your OWN biases and analyze this objectively.

> I'm a native Texan and think this show is great, but the
> US has this prejudice about TX

Talk about a victim complex! Of course, because a show failed it must have been due to prejudices against Texas! Again, try actually thinking about this using facts. First off, most crime shows about NY/LA highlight NEGATIVE aspects of the city, i.e. crime. If anything, they scare away certain visitors and paint a negative picture about its inhabitants. Slums, drugs and poverty are frequent topics. So these don't cause "prejudices" about NY/LA?

Second, what is this alleged "prejudice about TX" that prevents people from watching? There have been at least 49 shows situated in TX s base your answer on that.

Third, are you forgetting that arguably the most influential primetime drama was based in Texas? I'm talking about Dallas (1978-1991), whose "Who shot JR?" episode is a landmark in American TV, and one of the highest rated episodes ever. In fact, its influence is still felt today: a remake of the TV series will air in 2013.

Now think about it: if there is a negative "prejudice" about Texas that dooms shows, would they have titled the show, "Dallas"? Why not call it "The Ewings" or "Oil Tycoon"?

============

Seriously, stop the childish insults and use some facts and logic instead of personal biases. You'll probably learn that the world is not as hateful as you'd like to think.

reply

No, but aparently we are expected to follow it around to whatever day they decide to show it! Saturday?
They did the same crap to Stargate Universe, Caprica, and Saving Grace: moved it around the calender and it kills the following.

reply

I hate it when shows I like get moved around as well.
However in this case the way I look at it is for a while I wasn't sure they were going to show the remaing episodes at all. At least now they will be shown on Saturday nights which is a lot better than not at all. Though I really like the show I have realistically given up hope of it coming back next year. At least this way the fans get to see the remaing bepisodes which were completed> i always hate it when shows I like are cancelled without even showing all the episodes that have been filmed.

reply

This link says it has been cancelled: http://tvdonewright.com/2011-2012-preview/2011-2012-renewal-pilots-can cellation-chart/

reply

I think at least most of us have at least assumed that Chase would not be back next year for a while now especially after the way it was taken off the air last time for terrible ratings. I for one am at least glad that they are apparently going to show the remaining unaired episodes that they have already filmed. I wish it would be back next year since I do like the show but at least we get to see those last few episodes.

reply

I'm glad too but the more I see of it, the more I'm getting to like it. Too bad TNT or USA can't pick it up. They are both becoming good programmers. I watch White Collar, In Plain Sight and Covert Affairs on USA in case you are looking for some shows you haven't tried before. IPS began its new season already and WC and CA are going to start on June 7th.

reply

I watch In Plain Sight and White Collar. I have not seen Covert Affairs.

reply

I got turned on to both of them when there was nothing to watch over the summer. White Collar is so funny! I even got my daughter to watch it. Covert Affairs is about the CIA and Piper Perabo is really good and the rest of the cast is great.

reply

Other TNT and USA programs I like are Rizzoli and Isles, and Hawthorne which are summer shows on TNT. Also Fairly Legal which is on USA. Rizzoli and Isles is about a Medical Examiner and cop solving cases together, not a new idea but I still like it. Hawthorne is a medical drama with the main character being a nurse which is a little different. Fairly legal like many USA shows is a comedy drama sort of show about a lady who quit being an attorney and became a mediator coming up with interesting solutions trying to make everybody happy in various mediations. It is often funny with her dealing with multiple cases running all around dealing with a stepmotherand various coworkers and an estranged husband.
Fairly Legal just started this fall. The ratings were not great but I would be dissapointed if it does not get renewed. Rizzoli and Isles, and Hawthorne are scheduled to be back this summer.
I just heard Fairly Legal has been renewed and will be back beginning of 2012

reply

I forgot to mention Rizzoli and Isles and Hawthorne. I mentioned TNT but not the shows I watch. I love both of those shows. I will try Fairly Legal. That sounds interesting. I've been watching Harry's Law on NBC I think, by Davie E Kelley but it is not the best he has done, for sure.

reply

I watched Harry's law as well. Not his best but I still liked it and hope it will be back but I am not optimistic.
I was delighted to hear today that Fairly Legal will be back next year. I just wish we didn't have to wait until the beginning of 2012.
If you are interested the last 4 episodes of Fairly Legal are available for free right here on imdb.com and all 10 are available on amazon instant video at $1.99 per episode. Among the guest stars is Richard Dean Anderson from MacGyver which I used to love. He has a small role in several episodes

reply

Thanks Timothy for the information. I like Richard Dean Anderson too. I was really hoping Harry's Law would continue because 1) it is a David E Kelley which are usually great (Picket Fences was so good) and I love Kathy Bates. The cast is pretty good too. The story lines are a little too fantastic though.

reply

I forgot to mention Psych and Law and order Criminal Intent On USA. What I don't like about USA and TNT is that they typically have fewer episodes per season and especially USAtend to split up their seasons into 2 parts which I also hate. Of course now the other networks are starting to do the same thing, taking months off in the middle of a season, sometimes losing any viwers they had.

reply

I know what you mean. We sit here every night wondering why there is nothing new on TV. I have all of our favorites set up to record on DVR so when they come back after hiatus, they will automatically record. But, much as I really am very tired of American Idol, sometimes it's the only thing to watch. But, that's also how I've found all of these good shows on cable stations. If you haven't already, watch Flashpoint, it is a great show. It is starting a new season on Friday May 6. I found it in reruns last year and then watched the new season. It is made in Canada and all of the actors are Canadian. I can't tell you how much I like this show!

I have never watched Psych but I've watch Law and Order Criminal Intent. I haven't watched it since Jeff Goldblum has been on it and it wasn't on NBC. I forget it's on.

reply

Fairly Legal is great on US network as well..I think Chase would've fit perfectly on that network..I just watched the Chase that came on this Sat. 5/7/11 and it was so freaking good-- Daisy broke my heart. It seemed like they wrapped up esp bc of the picture at the end of the whole team together...It was a heart breaking episode bc Daisy kills her music teacher for molesting her when she was young, he molested her for 6 years. She never told anybody, and kept it all inside all these years. BUT when her niece started taking lessons, she asked her niece diff questions and you could tell the music teacher was starting up w/her...Daisy broke into the music teacher's home and found --locks of little girl's hair and their pictures (not nude). He just kept them as a "sick memory" of what he did..well Daisy wrote a letter to Luke, and her parents..went to the perverts home and shot him in the head. Her team/friends show up and they are telling her you should've come to them, they were all crying...it was sad
I still think the show could have gone on though w/o Daisy (although i really liked her and would've missed her) This show was so good and had so much more to give a lot more stories to tell, esp about Annie's childhood, and ton more fugitives that need to be caught. I will miss it, they cancel this show but keep on crap shows or add spinoffs that are not necessary..sorry so long just pissed its gone.

reply

Hi Idddhunter. I saw that episode with Daisy last weekend. It was very intense. Unfortunately, I haven't watched all of them as I got started late in the season. Hopefully, they will show them in reruns this summer. White Collar and Covert Affairs will start their new seasons on June 6th. You might try to catch up on them as I'm sure they will show some episodes before the new season starts.

reply

I hope not as this show has just started here in Australia & my sister & I absolutely LOVE it. It's our regular Saturday catch-up show( screened of Fridays but we watch it on Saturday). 1 of the best shows EVER. Why do so many great shows get taken off but crappy stuff stays. GRRRRRRRRR

reply

Well it's cancelled now and I'm still pissed some 2 years later. Thought the show was great. Good action and some decent acting. It sucks that it ended so soon. Too many shows get cancelled way before their time. Other shows (The Bachelor & Bachelorette) stay on the air forever. It sucks.
