Any other binge watchers dropping by?

Alas that IMDB removed all of the threads from when this show was on the air.

I resisted my inclination to come here and see what everyone else had to say while I was binge watching. And for nothing. There's practically nothing here.

I watched all three seasons in a matter of days. I am a binge watcher and came here as well seeing no threads from the past airings. It disappointed me cause I am sure the discussions about a lot of the characters and scenes were good. I don't know why some show boards lose their threads after 6 months to a year or so, but I can stroll across another board with posts from 2009 on it.

This also happened on the Hell on Wheels board. Before season 2 imdb cleared out over half the boards threads....it's still on the air, filming season 4 now and threads keep disappearing.

I know. From one day to the next all of the old threads on the Hannibal board disappeared. It's only been on for a little over a year. bummer.

I used to watch that show religiously, then I stopped after the first two episodes of this season 2. It's too freaking creepy.

It's supposed to get still darker. Simply amazing the NBC sensors vet this show,

I love it!!!

I got through most of season one and then sort of just skipped through for all the cute Lucrezia ans Cesare scenes :)! I liked their relationship but sometimes, Lucrezia's behaviour annoyed me when it came to Cesare.

I did some binge-watching of the Borgias recently, and found it useful to go to TV Without Pity, and look up the forum for the Borgias. At least you can read the comments made after each show.

thanks for the tip.

I'm looking to see what people say about Lucretcia.... I'm in season 3 episodes 3/4, and she's terrible. Her seduction of Cesarean is good but her whiny outrage about her son's acceptance is terrible.

I watched Borgia before watching The Borgias.... For the most part think Borgia was better.

(Skipping all the text above)

Yeah I just picked up this show. Halfway through season 2. Really into it. I'm avoiding Wikipedia as well. In the past, I looked up historical figure bios and ruined the dramatic intebt of the show. Though it is tempting. As is coming on this board. I fear I'll see a headline about my favorite character dying. (No Juan! Just kidding I wish he would die.)

I just watched all 3 seasons in a week. Amazing! But I have to say, that's how they end it? WTF?!?

As I remember, the creator had a 3 season arc in mind, but got the axe before he could complete his vision. He wanted to then do a movie to tie up loose ends, but that was also shut down.

Apparently, some posters on the board have read the script and said that it was best that it never saw the light of day. Leaving the story right there was not all that bad a position. Even though the show played a little fast and loose with history, there was no way that they could rewrite history enough for a happy ending for anyone but Lucrezia.

Not exactly. At the start both Showtime and the show’s creator, Neil Jordan, planned 4 full seasons that should cover the events at least till the death of the pope. Moreover season 1 was so well received by both critics and audience that they even started thinking of a possible spin-off going into the Julius II pontificate. But the ratings for season 2 dropped and the show ceased being profitable for Showtime. Nonetheless it was renewed for the next season and it’s even very possible, imo, that they decided to introduce the physical incest in season 3 only to raise the ratings – anyway I remember Neil Jordan saying in his early interviews he sees Lucrezia and Cesare relationship as purely platonic so it doesn’t seem to be his idea. Anyway it worked and the season 3 ratings were indeed a little better than for season 2 but still not on the season 1 niveau. So Showtime didn’t want the show anymore and apparently, Jordan suddenly said he’s not sure if he has enough material to write another full season. That’s then he suggested a 2 hours movie as a closure but Showtime rejected it as well.

I read “The Borgia Apocalypse” script and no, I didn’t hate it. Imo it’s not better but also not worse than the Jordan’s writing for “The Borgias” in general. All the typical faults are still there: it’s utterly unhistorical, uneven and inconsistent, sometimes very VERY slow, paying too much attention to the things that never happened in the history and, on the other hand, just skipping really important historical events or replacing them with the writer’s own silly figments. But at least it has a twist at the end I didn’t expect at all. Lol
All who really hate the script are Cesare/ Lucrezia shippers and I can understand their feelings quite well. Lol What I don’t understand is what kind of closure they actually wanted and expected. Seriously, Neil Jordan already butchered the actual history to such an extent in the show that I can’t see how else he could finish his almost completely fictional story without it being silly and implausible sometimes. If anything I don’t like how dull and boring the script shows the conspiracy of La Magione, for example, rather than the outcome of Cesare and Lucrecia story…

Leaving the story right there was not all that bad a position.

Basically, I agree. In any case, not for those who ship Cesare and Lucrezia.

Here were the topics of discussions from when the show aired:

- There was one topic where someone asked why Micheletto was so loyal to the Borgia family. Many people thought that the reason why Micheletto would die for Cesare is because he has a deep affection for him, like a crush.

- Another topic that asked how Savanarola knew that Micheletto was gay. The concensus on that issue was that he just happened to get lucky since he calls all sinners "sodomites"

- A topic that expressed how Lucrezia can get slightly annoying (like it was mentioned here)

- Who do you like more: Micheletto or Rufio?

- A topic that praised the actress who's playing Catherina Sforza

- Analyzing Vice Chacellor Sforza's character and his motives.

Those are just a handful of topics that I can remember.

Well it's been 2 months now since I've seen the show, so my memories have dimmed a little, but that won't stop me from chiming in on all of your topics and inviting all comers to do the same.

someone asked why Micheletto was so loyal to the Borgia family. Many people thought that the reason why Micheletto would die for Cesare is because he has a deep affection for him, like a crush.

Absolutely! I'm sure Micheletto fell hard as soon as Cesare threatened his life and then gave him a little murder and mayhem challenge. I think it blossomed later into a full on homosexual crush, but who would not? I'll bet even straight guys back in the day would salivate. Cesare was hot!

The little gesture while Cesare was sleeping and then Micheletto saying goodbye forever and here is how you defeat the Sforzas was practically a love poem.

The real question is, did Cesare realize it and use it to manipulate Micheletto consciously?

how Savanarola knew that Micheletto was gay. The consensus on that issue was that he just happened to get lucky since he calls all sinners "sodomites"

This I really don't remember well enough to have a strong opinion. I think Savanarola was willing to think everyone who was not one of his acolytes was a sodomite. So not even a guess really, more like a sweeping generalization.

Lucrezia can get slightly annoying

Oh God, Yes! The real Lucrezia must have been a strong and cunning woman, but the show's Lucrezia seems to get more and more dumb blonde as time went on. It was extremely annoying.

Who do you like more: Micheletto or Rufio?

Micheletto! I don't even remember Rufio.

A topic that praised the actress who's playing Catherina Sforza

A memorable performance to be sure. Gina McKee. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0571160/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t12. Sadly I do not see any upcoming projects with her. Somebody give this lady a starring role!

- Analyzing Vice Chacellor Sforza's character and his motives.

This is a guy who could see the writing on the wall. I don't think he was out for more power than he had, lest he wind up dead. but I could be wrong.
