My favorite new cop show -- cancelled!

I am beginning to loathe the networks. This has become my favorite cop show and they cancelled it!

The Maria Bellow character is so great. I like that the characters in Prime Suspect have some depth to them. I also like that there are some interesting back stories going on.

I'm not saying it is "The Wire" but at least this show was trying to get some good character development going.

This sucks.

Awe, I guess her gritty tenacity wasn't enough to save the show :(

It is terrible that the show didn't have a strong enough viewership despite being a strong show.

Is this true? A finality? Son of a bitch! Prime Suspect was my favorite new show by far. Great cast, and writing that was getting better every week. The last episode -- "A Gorgeous Mosaic" -- was one of the best of the year. I'm so disappointed to hear this show has been cancelled, when so much dreck stays on the air.

reply

I agree with you about the writing.

For starters, they don't over write it. You want the characters to make the big speech or cliches zinger but then they don't say anything. It's much more powerful that way.

reply

HUGE SIGH. I'm not even particularly a fan of Maria and after the first few episodes (which were ok with potential, Kirk kept me watching) I got into the show more and more. By the fourth or fith episode I really liked her character and it seemed authentic to me. You know I bought her in that role. I really enjoyed this show and hate to see it go. But it's nothing new with me because every show I truly start to enjoy gets axed. Oh well, such is life. I don't even think I'll keep up with any more NBC shows on demand anymore, what's the point?

Oh and my favorite cop show as well, maybe my favorite of the new batch PERIOD.

Rest in Peace Dwight "Heavy D" Myers, we will miss you!

I think the problem was that Jane wasn't always a very likable character but she did have some good qualities about her.

reply

I'm starting to see that's pretty much the consensus but I personally didn't mind that she wasn't always likeable. The more I watched the more I liked her character. I loved her in the episode with the little girl. She just seems awkward most of the time which I think made her more interesting.

"What is this gun doing here?"
"I'd shoot him with it."
"I'd help you."

That won me over into watching the first episode and I never missed an episode afterwards

LOL. See the first episode or two there were things I liked but some things I didn't but I kept watching (mostly because of Kirk Acevedo, haha, I really didn't remember he was in it so it was a pleasant surprise) and the more I watched the better it got. Little lines like the one above gave the show a sort of charm that I enjoyed. I'm not even a Maria Bello fan but I liked her in this show.

Rest in Peace Johnny Otis, Etta James, a Rhythm & Blues legend & a true artist you will be missed.

I found "Jane" very likable! Her character is one of the best parts of the show, for me.

I liked that she was a scrapper. But the show gave us plenty of opportunities to see her more vulnerable side.

Kalea,

Doesn't it drive you crazy? The crappy shows go on forever and the really great ones inevitably get cancelled.

reply

Yes! It has me like this then this and finally . Just commit me already!

Rest in Peace Johnny Otis, Etta James, a Rhythm & Blues legend & a true artist you will be missed.

reply

Wow! A Johnny Otis fan! Cool. I agree. RIP.

reply

Hey! You know Johnny too? I must admit I'm more familiar with his son, Shuggie's music but Johnny was great. I find Johnny's story so intriguing, really the Otis family in general has an amazing story. Wish more people knew about them.

I understand this show was canceled to make way for the new reality series "The Doormen"in which Doormen compete for the top spot by completing foolish challenges and sniping at each other in carefully edited soundbites.
It will be a breath of fresh air.

You been bird-doggin' this township awhile now... folks 'round here wouldn't mind a corpse of you.

Pure class.

Rest in peace Sullivan Walker. A distinguished, underappreciated, talented actor and a lovely man.

i too hate when good shows get canceled. there have been a number of new cop shows that don't make it, yet we get upteenth season of law and order and the like. don't get me wrong i like SUV but new shows when good are refreshing and i don't understand why more people don't embrace them.
